Predictable Positive Learning Environment and/or Behavior Tip of the Week: Good Behavior Game
The PAX Good Behavior Game is an evidence-based, Tier 1 classroom management strategy that allows for increased time on-task, decreased class disruptions, and decreased out-of-seat behaviors. While other behaviors can be targeted with the PAX game, these are typically the 3 most tracked behaviors while playing the game. The classroom is broken into 2 or more groups and each group is working together in order to display appropriate behaviors (PAX behavior) and to minimize negative behaviors (called Spleems). Spleems are documented on the daily/weekly game tracking form in a neutral tone by the teacher (or designated responsible student once you've gotten that independent with playing the game). Whichever team "wins" (it can be none or even all), receives a quick reinforcement when the timer goes off for that game. Teams can work for larger reinforcers should your class choose to do so. The game is typically played, in the beginning, for only a few minutes at a time and a few times a day--working up to playing for longer duration and more frequently.
I am available to describe the game further, or even to get a new class started with this at any time. I have several games already made up and waiting! Please add that teachers can reach out at any time for more information and I am here to help them however they need! I'd LOVE if this could be school-wide for next year. Imagine the usage!!! We could play it in the cafeteria, during gym time, during assemblies,...across all environments!
