STAMP Testing for Immersion Students in 2nd-5th Grades
This year students in 2nd-5th grades in our immersion program will take the STAMP 4Se assessment. Here are some FAQs about the assessment:
What is the STAMP 4Se?
The STAMP 4Se is an online, computer adaptive proficiency test offered through Avant Assessment. "Adaptive" means that as students take the test, they will address some questions in the immersion language that are very easy for them to answer and others that are much more challenging. The STAMP 4Se offers students the opportunity to show what they CAN DO with the immersion language in a spontaneous, unrehearsed context. The STAMP 4Se assesses four skill areas in Spanish: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
What parts of the STAMP 4 Se will immersion students take each spring?
- Grades 2 & 3 Spanish immersion - Listening & Speaking only
- Grade 4 Spanish immersion - Reading & Writing only
- Grade 5 Spanish immersion - Reading, Writing, Listening, & Speaking
Will parents receive STAMP 4 Se test results?
Yes. Classroom teachers will provide families with their child's results. STAMP 4Se results are available approximately 4 weeks after the test administration.
How will the test results be used?
CFSD's 50/50 immersion program is grounded in the teaching and learning of both grade-level content and language. Immersion teachers will analyze the STAMP 4Se test results and will make adjustments to instruction as needed in order to reach or exceed CFSD's targeted proficiency outcomes for Spanish. Given the increasingly more complex grade-level curriculum that students address from year to year, it's critical that teachers assess and plan strategically for their students' Spanish language development. The STAMP 4 Se is one tool that teachers use to accomplish this goal.
Additionally, 5th grade Spanish immersion results will be examined to: 1) evaluate the efficacy of the K-5 immersion program; 2) facilitate learning as students move from elementary to middle school; and 3) determine professional development needs for the K-5 immersion team.
If you would like more details about the STAMP exam, there is a great deal offered on the Avant website:
