Central Elementary: Helping Kids Discover Their Genius

Week of May 9

Message from Mrs. Hill

Families,

Our Fitness Frenzy week was AMAZING, thanks to Coach O, our teachers, our families, and our Marine volunteers! The kids had a blast each day, and the weather could not have been more perfect. We are so blessed to have Coach O's dedication to our kids' love of fitness and becoming team players.

Teacher Appreciation Week was simply fantastic for our amazing teachers! The CIA helped coordinate little treats for each day, and our kids and families made us all feel so special. We are so thankful for the support of our families and the community. Without you, we would not be as successful. It takes all of us to raise OUR kids.

We have many important events coming up here at Central, so please refer to the handout we sent home and list of dates at the end of this newsletter to keep up with us! You can also follow our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter feeds to see updates and exciting happenings in our school! Information at the end of this flyer will help you get plugged in! Follow our celebrations and learning!

Our school is planning a school wide picnic on the last day of school. More information will be coming home with your child soon! We plan to serve hot dogs, chips, water, and sno cones. If you are able to attend, we would love to have you join us! Mark your calendars for May 25, and we will send home detailed information very soon.

We are committed to teaching to the #lastbell on May 25, but we will also make every moment fun and special for our kids. The end of the year is exciting, but also bittersweet for some of our fourth graders who are moving on to middle school, and some of prek kids who will move to Kindergarten in their zoned schools! We plan to take advantage of every opportunity to connect, engage, love, and inspire every child.

Have a wonderful week!

Your Lead Learner,

Mrs. Hill

Book Fair Coming May 16! Prepare for Summer Reading!

We want our kids to continue reading over the summer, so we will be hosting a summer reading book fair starting May 16! Please make plans to visit and purchase books for your child's summer reading. There is so much research that supports the importance of kids reading daily for enjoyment...even for just a few minutes. Family reading is vital as well, because kids need to have you involved by modeling your own love for reading and by reading to your children. Mark your calendars and come visit us!

Central Night at Marco's Pizza Coming Soon!

Make plans for a family pizza night on Wednesday, May 18! Just mention Central when ordering and they will give us a portion of the profits! We are so thankful for our partnership with this community business. We received a nice check recently from Brent, the owner. This will go toward supporting our kids and classrooms.
Central Elementary Family Blog

Our school blog is for kids, teachers, staff, families, and community members who would like to contribute. We want to model blogging for our kids while promoting digital citizenship for them.

Healthy Snacks

All kids in our school are encouraged to bring a healthy snack and water bottle with them each day. Our teachers provide moments of time for inclusion of a snack into the instructional day. We believe staying hydrated helps kids remain focused and also keeps the headaches away! A light snack keeps the bellies from growling and provides energy for a busy school day. We discourage junk foods such as potato chips, candy, and other sweets.

SHOPAROO POINTS UPDATE...

Shoparoo Update

We have earned $400 for our school through Shoparoo! As of Sunday afternoon we have accumulated over 217,000 Roo Points, and have 122 supporters. Every little amount helps, so between Shoparoo, Box Tops, Marcos Pizza, and any other initiative we take on, we can earn cash rewards for our school and avoid fundraising as much as possible.

Now, let's focus on getting to $500! :)

You can join Shoparoo with the following code: lang5526

Tell your friends and family to join in as a supporter and start scanning!

What Will Shoparoo Funds Help Purchase?

We need more Chromebooks and technology for our students. The goal is to have a 1:1 setting in third and fourth grades! This means there is a Chromebook (laptop device) for each student's use throughout a school day. We have several devices currently and want to add more. We would also like to add to our second grade classrooms in the future, and have 1:1 devices for our kindergarten and first grade kids. We would also love to add more devices to support kids' efforts with coding!

Box Tops for Education

Our school collects Box Tops for Education, so please be saving these at home! We are hoping to purchase a brand new flag pole for our campus. The funds we raise with Box Tops will help us achieve our goal.

Below are links to some collection pages for Box Tops. You are free to print these, or you may ask your child to pick up a sheet at school! We will have them available for you.
