Elkins Park Leadership Academy Programs Hosts Annual Tie Ceremony
Twenty-nine sixth graders participated in the sixth annual Elkins Park School Leadership Academy Program’s (LAP) high impact tie ceremony this past week in Kircher Hall with an audience of nearly 100 family, friends and community members. Dedicated to the pursuit of excellence, responsibility and unity, the LAP is an after-school program for boys of color and aims to eliminate the achievement gap. Group sponsors Tai Crutchfield, Quyntyn Gaston and Cyd Smith subscribe to the Frederick Douglass quote, “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.” Read more>

CBK Student Chemists Finish Third in “You Be the Chemist” Competition
This past weekend, a team of Cedarbrook chemists called “Chemically Compelled” finished third in the Chemical Educational Foundation’s “You Be the Chemist” competition at the DOW Research Center in Collegeville, Pa. Rheva Wolf, Theodore Peebles, Trinity Peak and Griffin O’Connor comprised the team, and worked well together, tapping into each other’s strengths, while maintaining a positive energy and enthusiasm that permeated the audience. CES Celebrates Black History Month
Cheltenham Elementary’s second grade students performed for the entire student body this past week and shared all the things they learned during Black History Month. With support from their amazing music teacher Michelle Przybylowski, students sang, danced and shared the wonderful contributions of African-Americans to American History. Read more>

Senior High Jumper Brianna Smith Wins State Title
Duke-bound senior Brianna Smith captured the Pennsylvania indoor state championship in the high jump with a gold medal-winning leap of 5-6 on March 1 at Penn State. Smith also finished fourth in the 60mH (9.04) and fifth in the long jump (18-7.75). Freshman Eyota Bey finished fourth in the 200m (25.28) and 400m (56.8). The team finished third with 29 points. Junior Bass Qualifies for State Festival
Junior Caelan Donahue, a Bass 2 in Cheltenham High School’s Select Choir, was one of six in his voice category to qualify for the Pennsylvania All-State Festival at this past weekend’s Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Region VI Chorus Festival at North Penn High School. Representing Cheltenham well, Donahue performed with more than 150 other singers from across Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, Chester and Philadelphia Counties during two days of rehearsals and an excellent concert. The state festival is April 22-25 in Pocono Manor, Pa., and Donahue and about 160 other exceptional young musicians from across the state will sing under the direction of Dr. Amanda Quist, director of choral activities at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami (Fla.).

Senior Atara Saunders to Keynote UPG’s “Why Choose Cheltenham” Open House

- Alumnus Dave Burd (pictured) a.k.a. Lil Dicky was featured in a Philadelphia Inquirer story about the formative places in his life, including Harrison Ave., Elkins Park School and Frank's Pizza. Burd's fictionalized version of his trek to stardom, the sitcom Dave, debuted on FX earlier this week. Read more>
- Alumna Alison Ormsby was included in a story in The Philadelphia Inquirer about the Azuka Theater production “Ship” at The Drake through March 15th. Read more>
Calendar Reminders
Monthly early dismissals are generally the second Wednesday of the month. In March, the District has early dismissal on Wednesday, March 11. Schools will dismiss at the following times:
- Cheltenham High School | 1:30 p.m.
- Cedarbrook Middle School | 2:10 p.m.
- Elkins Park School | 2:40 p.m.
- K – 4 Schools | 2:45 p.m.
in advance of Spring Break, schools will dismiss at the following times on April 3:
- Cheltenham High School | 1:55 p.m.
- Cedarbrook Middle School | Noon
- K – 6 Schools | 1 p.m.
Schools will be closed Monday - Friday, April 6 - 10 for Spring Break.
District Offices will be closed Friday, April 10.
- First day of the 2020-21 school year is Monday, Aug. 31.
- The final student day of the 2020-21 school year is Thursday, June 17.

Elementary Reading Series Presentations and Demonstrations
The Cheltenham School District will host leading elementary reading series makers Wonders, Journeys, Fountas and Pinnell and myView for presentations and demonstrations Thursday, March 26 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Administration Building (2000 Ashbourne Rd., Elkins Park, PA 19027). The companies were contacted based on the recommendations from the Curriculum Instruction & Professional Development Committee. Presentations and demonstrations are open to the public so please stop by to check out their offerings.
