Romeo external conflict
a Montague
This is a play written about two people who fall in love but in the end kill themselves to be with each other. My theme for this play is people should not hide things or keep secrets from others. This is my theme because Romeo and Juliet hide a lot of things to be with each other.
Textual evidence
In act 1, scene 5 it say's This, by his voice, should be a Montague.... A villain, that is hither come in spite to scorn at our solemnity this night" (pg.1015, L.60-68). Tybalt is talking to lord Capulet about Romeo sneaking into the ball. This shows that Romeo was sneaking into the Capulet's ball when he wasn't supposed to and got caught by Tybalt who went and told lord Capulet because Tybalt doesnt like Romeo because he is a Montague.
Textual evidence
In act 2, scene 4 the text i found is " What sayst thou, my dear nurse? Is your man secret?.... I warrant thee my man's as true as steel" (pg. 1037, L. 200-202). The nurse is speaking to Romeo about his servant. The nurse is asking Romeo if his servant can be trusted with their secret plan because he is a Montague and the nurse doesn't know if she can trust them.
Textual evidence
In act 2, scene 4 it says " The orchard walls are high and hard to climb, and the place death, considering who thou art, if any of my kinsmen find thee here" (pg. 1024, L. 70-72). Juliet is speaking to Romeo about their love. Romeo has snuck over to Juliet's house late at night to talk about their love for each other and nobody knows he is their except for Juliet so later in the play it won't end up to well for the both of them.
Textual evidence
In act 3, scene 2 it says " I could draw to part them, was stout Tybalt slain; and as he fell, did Romeo turn and fly.... he is a kinsman to the Montague; he speaks not true" (pg. 1050, L. 186-191). Benvolio is trying to tell lady Capulet that Romeo was trying to stop Mercutio and Tybalt fighting but he couldn't and lady Capulet thinks he is lying to protect Romeo.
