White River Valley School District Program Updates---Issue 3

Program Choices for Re-Opening School Finalized

The White River Valley School District will operate with optimum student/parent choice as we look at reopening school on August 11th. We will offer the following programs:

1. Traditional School: WRVSD believes that the best form of educational programming that we can offer is face-to-face teacher to student instruction. When at all possible, WRVSD will operate in this manner. Within the traditional school schedule, short term school closures will necessitate the use of our regular e-Learning system.

2. Self-Paced Learning Virtual Education Option: All three WRVSD schools will operate a virtual self-paced education offering through Edgenuity Curriculum and a WRVSD employee supervisor. These programs will be offered both on-site at the MS and HS through the Wolverine Academy and online (virtually). The ES program will be offered off-campus (virtually) only. The student may change from a virtual option back into the traditional model at the end of each nine weeks (elementary and middle school) and at the end of a semester for high school students. The high school students earn credits at the end of each semester making mid-stream transfers impossible. The high school Wolverine Academy program and the middle school virtual learning program option must be approved by the building principal. We do have a dedicated school employee in the supervisory role at EACH building.

If a parent chooses this option for his/her student, he/she must set up a conference with the building principal in order to get the student registered into the program.

The virtual programs are also available onsite at the school all day at the high school and from 1-4pm at the middle school.

Please contact the building principals to take advantage of this particular offering:

WRV Elementary School: Mrs. Jill Staggs jstaggs@wrv.k12.in.us

WRV Middle School: Mr. Jason Walton jwalton@wrv.k12.in.us

WRV High School: Mr. Doug Lewis dlewis@wrv.k12.in.us

3. Distance Education Hybrid: If the school system is required to move to online schooling because of an extended shut down, WRVSD will run a hybrid distance education program with online class meetings and instruction offered on a specific schedule. Distance Education instruction will operate as most colleges do with both “real-time” class meetings and teacher online availability. We do have a schedule prepared that will allow personal meetings between teachers and students at all levels of instruction.

Our Indiana Department of Education CONTINUOUS LEARNING PLAN is available online at www.wrv.k12.in.us. This plan includes all of our procedures and guidelines to hold traditional school in a safe environment for students and staff. I know the big question out there regards masks; right now, those will only be required in situations where social distancing cannot be accomplished.

Back to School Registration

RETURNING STUDENTS SHOULD REGISTER ONLINE!!

Registration is available NOW through our Harmony student information system. Parents should use their Harmony user names and passwords to log-in to the system and complete the necessary enrollment forms and update their student's information.

NEW STUDENTS to the DISTRICT or STUDENTS CHOOSING THE VIRTUAL OPTION:

Students who are new to the WRVSD family or students choosing the virtual option to begin school will need to contact the building principal to make an appointment to get registered into our programs. Principal emails are listed above or you can contact Dr. Hacker at bhacker@wrv.k12.in.us or 812-659-1424.

Special Events Upcoming

Prom is July 18th; Graduation for Class of 2020 is July 25th

We are working hard to make sure our students get a couple of special opportunities that were missed during the Spring closure. Prom will be held on July 18th from 8-11PM at the high school. Grand March will take place on the west side of the building at 7:15PM and so that parking lot will be closed off. Students are reminded that masks and social distancing will be required...and so is having some fun!! All of the mandatory paperwork has been completed by now and we are following all recommended guidelines of the Greene County Health Department in staging the event. A huge thank you to our faculty prom sponsors for all of the work that has been put into the event. We will be well below the suggested number of people allowed to gather during the Governor's Stage 4.5 plan. A big "thank you" is also in order to the Junior Parents After-Prom Committee. T-shirts will be available at the prom that were printed for the after-prom event.

You might notice chalk lines out in the west parking lot this weekend. We are making the proper precautions in order to hold an outdoor commencement for the Class of 2020 on Saturday, July 25th at 10AM. (Rain date will be 5PM the same day or 1PM on Sunday, July 26th.) Seniors are reminded that practice is Friday, July 24th at 10AM sharp. A picnic lunch will be served following practice in their honor. Parents and patrons are reminded that they must provide their own lawn chairs. Parking will be limited to the west parking lot and the front south lot. There will be handicapped parking and spots for the elderly on a first come-first served basis in the parking area just to the south of the gym. The entire east lot will be closed. The east lot will be divided into four different seating zones and social distancing will be required. Facemasks for students will be required; facemasks for everyone else are strongly suggested. Our students have worked hard to get to this milestone. We have worked hard to make sure they get this opportunity. Let's be in agreement that nothing should be done to spoil this milestone for our students!! Hopefully, Mother Nature cooperates!!

News from TEAM ORTHO and Greene County General Hospital from Mrs. Burris

Sports Physicals and Immunizations

Hi everyone:

I wanted to pass along information about a few upcoming events we are having that may help with students getting ready to go back to school. First, we are offering free sports physicals at TeamOrtho on July 28, 2020 from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Students enrolled in Greene County schools can receive a free physical but they must have an appointment. Parents can call 812-847-3381 to schedule. Next, we are offering a vaccination clinic at TeamOrtho on Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Our TeamOrtho clinic has not had any COVID-19 patients, so parents can feel safe brining their students in. The vaccination clinic is by appointment only as well. Parents can call 812-847-4481 Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. to schedule a vaccination appointment. Insurance will be billed and a parent or guardian must be present at the time of the visit.
