Weekly Happenings at Southeastern Elementary
Principal's Postings
Welcome to the September 11, 2020, edition of Southeastern Scene.
Dear Southeastern Families:
We would like to take this moment to extend our sincere appreciation to all in our educational community. We are so grateful for your flexibility, your kindness and the grace you have given us as we navigate new schedules, procedures and routines. We feel incredibly cared for and loved as Wish lists have been filled, beautiful hand- made masks have been delivered and kind words have been shared in abundance. Thank you for a wonderful week filled with learning, loving and wonder. We look forward to see unlocking more learning next week.
Yours in education,
Mrs. Chastain and Mrs. Monkul
Counselor's Corner
Snack Attack Program returns
The Snack Attack program is back. This program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to provide students a little extra nourishment for the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school on Monday.
Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack of food to be taken home over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.
There is no cost to you or the school. If you are interested in having your student participate in FYAP's Snack Attack, please contact SES School Counselor Jen Smith at jensmith@hse.k12.in.us.
One-on-One Counselor meeting
If you would like for your student to meet with Mrs. Smith, please sign up for an individual appointment via the Calendly link here.
SEL Zones of Reflection
Last week our SEL enrichment activity was a review of the Zones of Regulation and an introduction to strategies that can be used to help us move through the zones.
The Zones of Regulation uses four colors to help children self-identify how they’re feeling and categorize it based on color. It also helps children better understand their emotions, sensory needs, and thinking patterns. Please access the attachment below for a worksheet you can use with your child(ren) at home.

It is also recommended that students have a change of clothes in their backpacks to accomodate any health needs.
Also, students are asked to stay home from school if any symptoms of illness are present. Please see below for at-home screening steps:

Lunchroom information
Menu
Below is the lunch menu for the first two weeks of school. Next week will be the week 2 menu. Two hot lunch entree choices are available each day. Alternative daily choices will be a turkey & cheese roll-up or a cheese roll-up. Students getting a lunch will receive a fruit, vegetable and milk with their entree. Students will need to tell their teachers in the morning of each day what their lunch choices will be for that day.
HSE Food Services is pleased to announce that the USDA has approved a nationwide waiver due to the ongoing COVID19 pandemic that allows ALL students, regardless of socioeconomic status, to receive FREE meals at school. The Indiana Department of Education has now given Indiana schools the approval to start. HSE Schools will start this program effective immediately. According to the USDA, this program is currently in effect until December 31, 2020 or until funding runs out.
What is considered a free meal?
Students can receive 1 FREE lunch AND 1 FREE breakfast per school day. Due to the later start time of 9:45, Elementary will not serve breakfast unless pre-ordered. If your student needs breakfast, please pre-order breakfast and pick up Tuesdays at HSE or FHS. Parents receive a weekly email with this information through the virtual order form that is sent out each week via skylert from HSE food service. Meals must meet the existing USDA guidelines that HSE Food Services has followed in order to be free. This includes an entrée, fruit, vegetable and milk. The meal must contain at least 3 components, one must be a fruit or vegetable. Ala carte items will still be an additional charge. These items include extra entrees and milk and snacks/drinks.
A Gluten free option is also available. Please contact cafeteria Manager Beth Verhoestra at bverhoestra@hse.k12.in.us if interested.
Lunch money accounts can be used to purchase a la cart items. There are several options available for families to use when making a payment to their student’s lunch account.
.
- Online, pre-payments (efunds)
- Cash (please put in envelope with students first and last name)
- Check
When sending check it is extremely important to have the student name and ID number written on the check memo line and/or the envelope. This will ensure the funds are placed on the correct account.
In addition, we have an online payment system for families to use to make pre-payments on student’s accounts. This system is EFunds and a link directly to their site is below. Please remember payments made using the online system must be made prior to midnight in order to be available the next day. EFunds is available now to make payments. Please access this link for EFunds.

Front Office Procedures
Parents, please notify the front OFFICE in regards to absences and late arrivals. You can leave a message on our attendance line by calling (317) 594-4340. Please leave detailed information, including student's first and last names with spelling, teacher's name, grade, and reason for the absence or late arrival. If late arrival, please include approximate time student will be arriving.
Leaving early for appointment
If student needs to leave early for any reason, only family and individuals listed on the student's approved Skyward list can pick up the student. In the student's Skyward account, under the "Family" and "Emergency Contact" tabs, you may list people approved by you to pick up your student. Those individuals MUST show a valid driver's licence when picking up the student. When arriving, please ring the silver button to the immediate left of the glass door closest to the front office. We must limit the number of non-staff inside the building. Please wait inside the vestibule while we get your student for you.
Forgotten Items
If a student forgets an item at home and a parent needs to drop off that item after school has begun, that item may be dropped off in the front office vestibule. There is a table right inside the first set of doors on which you can place the item. Please have student's first and last names, and teacher's name, on the item and we will deliver it to the student.
Dismissal Manager
Southeastern Elementary is utilizing Dismissal Manager for daily dismissal changes. Each family received specific login credentials from Dismissal Manager (please look for email from Dismissal Manager). If you need to change your student's regular dismissal for that day, you will need to log in to your Dismissal Manager account and make the necessary changes by 2:10 p.m. A list will be generated before the end of the school day with all of the dismissal changes for that day.
