All Things SLI
Silver Lake Intermediate Jan. 29, 2021
SLI Families:
It is hard to believe January is almost over already.
Reminders:
- Please select Explore classes for next school year by Feb. 5. See info. in this newsletter.
- Virtual Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on Feb. 11.
- MAP district assessment continues for some classes next week.
A big reminder to continue to remind your child about wearing his/her face mask properly. Now that all students are back and in closer proximity, proper mask wearing is of the utmost importance to keep our students healthy and keep our students in school.
Thank you to our incoming 5th grade families who were able to attend our virtual meeting this past Wednesday. Over 100 families joined us! For those families who weren't able to attend, a recording of the presentation will be sent to incoming families next week.
Lastly, please help support our school. Our first fundraiser of the school year is a Kwik Trip Car Wash Pack. A flyer and a button link to order is included in this newsletter. I know my car is in need of a good washing after all of the recent snow. Thank you for considering.
Have a great weekend! Let's hope there isn't too much shoveling.

MAP District Assessment Continues Next Week for Grades Who Haven't Tested
Please encourage your child to do his/her best, eat breakfast, and get plenty of sleep the night before testing. For students who may experience anxiety with testing, reassure them this test is only one measure of their progress in school. It does not affect their grades. It offers us a snapshot of how they are doing and areas they are doing well and areas where we can help them do well. If a student needs a break during testing, he/she should communicate this with their teacher.
6th Grade
6th grade students wrapped up their character unit with a virtual picture book read-aloud with 4th graders at Summit. They worked with a partner to plan out prompting questions and turn and talk/discussion opportunities for their 4th grade readers. Great work, 6th graders!

USDA EXTENDS FREE MEAL PROGRAM
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service has again extended the free student meals program, providing a free breakfast and lunch option for students until June 30, 2021, or until the USDA confirms that funding is no longer available, whichever comes first. As a result, student breakfast and lunch will be free on the days that students are learning at school face-to-face, and the days that students are learning virtually.
Full Face to Face January Family Communication
What does my child do if they are in quarantine or isolation?
Even though we are back full face to face five days a week, students in quarantine are expected to Zoom into the class here at school.
If your child is ill and is unable to participate in the virtual schedule (i.e. attend Zoom meeting with the in person class), please email your child's teachers so they are aware and can work with individual families/students.
What if my child has technical issues at home?
Students and families who need technical support can submit a ticket using the form on their student bookmarks, or available here. In addition, support from our Technology Help Desk is available during the school day by calling 262-560-2126 or emailing helpdesk@oasd.org. For those who do not have reliable internet access at home, please contact our help desk to request a hotspot. The OASD Technology Website has additional information on remote learning and technology resources.
