Egg Harbor Township High School

Week of September 18, 2022

As I mentioned in my last newsletter, it was a very busy week here at EHTHS. Between Spirit Week, state testing and ending the week with a Pep Rally, our students were very engaged this week.

We kicked off our Spirit Week with Mix-match Monday followed by Country or Country Club Tuesday, Dress Like Adam Sandler Wednesday, Throwback Thursday and Black/Silver Friday. It was wonderful to see the students and staff all participating in Spirit Week (check out our pictures below). The sense of school spirit is certainly contagious. On Friday morning, Smitty and Mr. Belinsky will host our Fall Pep Rally sponsored by Renaissance. Homecoming nominees will be recognized before the final crowning on Friday night during halftime of the football game. Best of luck to all of the nominees! We would love to see all of our families at 6 p.m. for the game.

That is just the beginning of the weekend for the EHT School District. On Saturday, September 24, the High School will once again host the 3rd Annual #EHTPride Festival. It will be a day packed full of middle school and high school sporting events, a band performance, live music, food trucks and a variety of vendors. Come out and see the best that EHT has to offer!

On Saturday night, Mr. Bell and the Student Council will host our annual Homecoming Dance. Tickets sold like hot cakes, but we were able to accommodate every student who was interested in attending. Students will enter the dance through the lower café and must be in the dance or in line by 7:30 p.m. Students who arrive after 7:30 p.m. will not be permitted to enter. Remember, once students leave the event, they cannot reenter. We are looking forward to a great time where students can dance the night away.

On Wednesday, all of our students participated in the NJ Start Strong testing. Ms. Elko and the guidance department did a great job of organizing all of the teachers and students who were taking several separate tests. A special thank you to all of our teachers who are always flexible and willing to go the extra mile on testing days. It is always appreciated.

One of the greatest highlights of the week was seeing all of the families in school on Wednesday night for our first in-person Back to School Night since 2019. Not only did parents get to follow their child’s schedule and meet their teachers, they also experienced what happens when the fire alarm unexpectedly activates! The parents did just as well as their students in evacuating the building with the help of our well-trained staff and excellent Senior Ambassadors. Thankfully, Bargaintown Fire Department quickly responded and we were able to get the parents back into the building in a timely manner. Hopefully, everyone had enough time to connect with all of the teachers.

Barksdale Photography has been at the High School all week taking Underclassmen student and staff pictures. Seniors who have not had their Senior Pictures taken still have an opportunity to get them done on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please visit to reserve a time.

Don’t forget, the district is closed on Monday, September 26 for Rosh Hashanah. I hope to see everyone this weekend during our exciting events!

Ms. Carugno

Students of the Week

STUDENT: Kaliah Register

NOMINATED By: Mrs. Davis

Kaliah is ready to reinvent herself here at EHTHS. She is very helpful to Mr. Ney and me in class, assisting with paper collection and distribution. She is a quiet student, and stepping outside of her comfort zone to help out should be commended.

STUDENT: Ulises Vidanos

NOMINATED By: Mrs. Bennett

Ulises brings enthusiasm and good energy to the classroom and the school itself. He always has a smile on his face, participates in class, and works hard. Go Ulises!

Senior Ambassadors

The Ambassadors spent this week taking the freshmen on tours of the Teen Center. It was very appreciated by the Teen Center Staff to be included in the freshmen tour.

"I wanted to thank you for making the Teen Center a stop/station for your Senior Ambassadors this year. Having all of the freshmen come in to visit the Teen Center in smaller groups has benefited greatly (not to mention all the Senior Ambassadors have been so accommodating and helpful)! We have been able to control the narrative and reduce the stigma, which in the past, has been difficult to do. Just wanted to send a thank you note because collaborating has made a huge and positive difference!"

Jay Tunnicliffe, MSW, LCSW, CSSW

Upcoming tours will be taking place at Guidance and the Library. If you would like to be a stop on our tour, please let me know.

Our Ambassadors also did a phenomenal job helping the parents/guardians during Back to School Night. It was quite a turn out and our Ambassadors definitely got their steps in!! ~~ Angelic

The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!

#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.

This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.

The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.

This notion is called being an #Upstander

Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
