From Mrs. Vogel ~ Principal
Hello Shoemaker Families!
I am excited to welcome you to the 2021-22 school year! We cannot wait to see our students on Monday August 30th, and our families at Meet the Teacher Night on Wednesday September 1st. We welcome and value your dedication as our partners in education, and we look forward to working with you throughout another successful school year.
Please do not ever hesitate to reach out to me in person, via phone or email.
See you soon.
Warmest regards,
Jacqueline Vogel
Principal
Drop-off and Pick Up Procedures
The student drop-off and pick-up procedures that were developed during our last school year were very successful. Therefore, we will continue with the same procedures for the 2021-22 school year. Please follow the directions below:
- All vehicles must enter Fairview Street from Route 100.
- Drive past the first left entrance to Shoemaker - continue on to the second left entrance (where the busses enter the campus).
- Make a left turn into the parking lot (upper level).
- Make a right turn at the end of the parking lot and drive to the front of the building.
- All vehicles must display a Shoemaker postcard in their front passenger side window with the student's name and grade level. The postcard will be given to you on the first day of school when you arrive in the morning.
**Please be aware that Macungie and Shoemaker families enter the same way. It is imperative that you stay in ONE lane on Fairview Street, and then move to the left only once you are on the Shoemaker campus.**
For both parent pick-up and drop-off, you will be required to stay in your car, and the car line (between the cones and the curb) until the cars ahead of you move. Please DO NOT go around other cars to get out of the line. Be sure that your child is ready to go when you pull up in the morning. Several staff members will be there to guide them into the building. Students may only enter and exit your vehicle on the passenger side.
DROP OFF: Drop off begins at 8:45AM and ends at 9:00AM.
PICK UP: Pick up times are as follows:
Grades k and 1 - 3:15 PM
Grades 2 and 3 - 3:17 PM
Grades 4 and 5 - 3:20 PM
*If you have children in multiple grades, please arrive at the youngest child's time.
Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe.
From Mrs. Konjoian ~ IST
Welcome back! We are so excited to kick off a new year at Shoemaker! As we get settled into the new school year, students will participate in Shoemaker’s universal screening process. These screenings include both assessments in reading and math. During universal screening, assessments are administered that then provide teachers with an overall snapshot of how students are performing based on national norms. It is just one piece of data we use when determining a student's strengths and needs; it is not graded.
Once all students have been assessed, each grade level team will meet to review the data and develop instructional plans for students. These plans include opportunities for both enrichment and extra support as needed, which may include a reading or math intervention with an Academic Support Assistant or Interventionist.
If you have any questions regarding the universal screening or additional support/intervention placement process, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or your child’s teacher.

Meet our New Interventionists!
This school year, elementary schools in East Penn had the opportunity to add two Interventionists to their teaching staff! We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Anne Finnegan and Mrs. Rebecca Olver in these roles! Mrs. Finnegan and Mrs. Olver will be working with both students and teachers as part of their new role. Their support will primarily be in grades 1st-3rd, but you may also see them in K, 4th or 5th from time to time! Mrs. Finnegan and Mrs. Olver will work to help address academic needs and gaps through targeted instruction and intervention. The Shoemaker team can’t wait to work with them both in this new role!
