As the principal, I have been working hard over the summer to develop new school initiatives focused on our campus culture, and preparing our school for more great learning to happen. Our theme for this year will be "The Keys to Success" and will focus on the key principles outlined in the book The 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey and The Leader in Me by Stephen R. Covey, Sean Covey, Muriel Summers, and David K. Hatch. As I prepare for students and teachers to return, I always think of what is best for students and what will help them grow academically, socially, physically, and emotionally. I hope that students see the symbol of the "key" as a universal theme for success that we will address monthly through classroom learning, character development, and our "Key Community" events we will hold this year.
We will continue to use the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills as our curriculum and support student learning through the use of the TEKS Resource System. Through out the school year teachers will be involved in professional learning directed toward meeting todays students digital learning needs, literacy and numeracy development, and writing across all subject and curriculum areas. Mimi Farley Elementary remains dedicated to the children we serve and their families to help students grow and become well rounded citizens. We plan to offer your students exciting and hands-on learning experiences through our partnership with Window on a Wider World for many of our field trips, events, and other learning opportunities for students.
School will begin at 8:00 each day and end at 3:15. With all of the information above and other great events and activities, we are looking forward to a great year at Mimi Farley. Students are in school for seven hours and fifteen minutes each day, and we plan to make the most of each minute.
Last, Mimi Farley Elementary will be providing all students with their supplies this year. Parents and teams will need to provide a backpack to take things to and from school, and tennis shoes for physical education. We will provide all paper, pencils, etc. to get the school year started. There may be times throughout the year that students are asked to bring other supplies for projects, but this will be kept to a minimum and will be asked for in advance by the teachers.
Please feel free to contact us with your questions or comments. Thank you for your continued commitment to your child's education and unwavering dedication to Mimi Farley Elementary School.
See you soon!
