Olympic Fever: Effervescent Joy
We were carried into the momentum of the Olympic spirit at Jean Vanier today; each of us holding onto a moment from the past couple of weeks where our hearts burst with pride or a tear was shed for the determination of an athlete. Perhaps the moms and dads out there related to the heart-wrenching commercials that convey the never-ending capacity of a parent’s unconditional love and support. Either way, we are caught up in a spirit of togetherness and Canadian pride. This collective unity brings a nation together and joy spills out exuberantly among us. Today, our JV village came alive with Olympic Spirit!
This is not unlike the collective effervescence we experience as Christians. We belong to a faith family; sharing together in the love, faith, peace, and joy of living. God reveals to us the spiritual reality of being one body in Christ. Through Jesus, we feel God’s unending love and know we journey together. We carry the flame-much like the Olympic torch- in our hearts, while we persevere through our own challenges, cheer on each other in moments of struggle, and are right there, with tears of pride, as we witness the celebrations of success.
If you ever want to experience effervescent joy come alive, watch a group of elementary children cheer on a classmate struggling to finish an event at a JV Olympic Day. While it would be an amazing experience to be at PyeongChang 2018, the joy we experienced today at Jean Vanier was truly a blessing and gives those Olympic commercials a run for their money! Thanks to everyone for making today such an AWESOME day!
God Bless!

Learning through Competencies
We are focusing on using the language and philosophies of learning through the competencies at Jean Vanier. Through competencies, students develop and connect key aspects of knowing, thinking and doing across a variety of learning contexts, both within and outside school. As students develop competencies through learner outcomes, they acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes that contribute to their success as lifelong learners and active citizens.
