Oregon law (ORS 329.479) permits parents/guardians and adult students* to annually opt-out of Oregon’s statewide assessments in English Language Arts (ELA) and/or Mathematics. For forms, and more information visit the SKSD website.

IT’S LICE TIME OF YEAR

Lice: this is a popular time of year for lice to appear. Please check your children's hair regularly. If you do find live lice, children must be treated and free of live lice before returning to school. Check out the Lice Flyer at the end of this newsletter for more details.

Borrowed Clothes from the Clothes Closet

Our Clothes Closest is running low on kids clothes, specifically sweats sizes 6 to 16. These clothes are used if a child has an bathroom accident or gets wet or muddy outside or spills milk, etc. If you have any clothes that were borrowed, please wash and return. Or, if you have any gently used sweat pants to donate, you can drop them by the office. This is much appreciated. Thank you!

Inclement Weather & 2 Hour Delays

The district is actively monitoring the weather and the forecast. If there are any weather-related impacts to school operations, staff and families will receive communication from the district.

If you have not already, please take the opportunity download the ParentSquare app and please be attentive to your email, text and phone during weather events. The district website will also be updated with current information.

FENTANYL BEING DISGUISED AS CANDY

Fentanyl is currently very common in our community; it is a powerful synthetic opioid that is like morphine but is 50 to 100 times more potent. Fentanyl is odorless, tasteless and colorless. Young people think they are taking “blues,” OxyContin or Xanax, but they are often taking pills laced with fentanyl. Recently, law enforcement agencies have also warned about the danger of fentanyl being disguised as candy, specifically targeted to be sold to children.

THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE

Do you have a question or need clarification about district operations or schools? The district recently launched, Through the Grapevine, where you can find accurate information regarding common questions and topics of conversation within the district and community related to SKPS. This link is found on the main page of the SKPS website.

GUIDE TO GRADUATION BY GRADES

2022-23 Meal Prices: Free!

Thanks to the USDA’s Seamless Summer Option, we will be able to feed all students breakfast and lunch at school for free this year.

Lunch Menus Food Services will not be printing lunch menus to send to the schools. They will post on each schools website, as well on the District website. They are having a hard time getting anything on a consistent basis and cannot depend on suppliers to have what is needed. The food chain/Supply and Demand is ever flexing.
