VPS Home-School Connection
A Resource for Families: Week of March 23rd
Dear VPS Families,
What a wild ride this has been! I hope this message finds you in a place where you are starting to settle into a routine at home given all the uncertainty that surrounds us.
We are SO incredibly grateful for your flexibility, understanding, patience, and support during this time! You are all doing an amazing job and we are proud of you.
I want to remind you that we provide these resources to help keep your children engaged in learning each day. However, we also recognize that every child is different and every family's circumstance is unique. Please know we do not expect children to do every single thing provided. If your child is experiencing frustration, please stop and contact your child's teacher. We are here to help and happy to connect with you!
This week, we are using a similar format with some "tweaks" to reflect what we learned last week :). You will notice notes underneath some buttons to indicate what needs to be kept for possible future use and what does not need to be printed, but is included for quick digital access.
We have also added resources from Mr. Schmidt, our inquiry teacher, as well as a few new resources under the Speech Therapy Connection, which includes a social story for children regarding COVID-19.
In addition, string lesson resources for students in year 2 of instruction have been added, as well as links to the distance learning websites for our art, music, and physical education departments. Be sure to check them out!
You will also find a button below for you. It is an optional daily checklist that you may want to use to help balance activities across the week.
Communication Expectations: Our VPS team is here for you! Teachers will be sending out new resources for the week every Monday morning and are available through e-mail during regular school hours. Some classrooms also use apps such as SeeSaw, Remind, Google Classroom, FlipGrid, and Bloomz. Please know that using these different programs/apps are not expectations for teachers. We are so excited to provide the resources here through the Smore and be able to stay in touch virtually. As always, if you have questions, concerns, or positive feedback, be sure to reach out to me or your child's classroom teacher.
Progress Report Update: Teachers will be completing progress reports by Monday, March 30th and sending them home electronically.
Spring Break: Even though social distancing practices will still be in place over the planned Spring Break from April 6th - April 13th, we will still be honoring the break. We will not be sending out resources and staff members will use the time to focus solely on their own families. We encourage you to use this time with your family playing together, creating together, and exploring together!
NYS Assessment Update: New York State has cancelled the 3-8 ELA and Mathematics assessments that were supposed to take place this spring. This is one less thing we will need to consider as we navigate so many new changes.
Remember to take care of yourselves and allow time each day to really be present with your family. Play a game, go outside, or read together. When your children sense your full presence and attention, they will experience more calm themselves.
We are so grateful for YOU!! Thank you for your partnership!!
With Great Appreciation,
Jen Check
Principal, Victor Primary School
