Thunderbirds Junior Netball

Christmas round-up

Berkshire League News

Well it has been quite a start to the new season in the Berkshire League, with both our U14 and U16 teams coming up against some stiff competition. We are still working to get the right fit for positions within the squads and things are looking positive going into the second half of the season in January. The score line hasn't always reflected how hard all the girls have worked and we have seen some great netball from both teams. Thanks to all the girls for their commitment, determination and patience with all the position changes - it is starting to pay-off.

The award for our star player this month went to Hannah Pickett (U16) who has demonstrated some excellent netball skills during the matches and has given everything until the final whistle. She has also shown commitment with her attendance at training. Well done Hannah!

Fixtures for the second half of the season have just been announced and will be shared with teams shortly.

Berkshire Awards 2015

Our former U16s picked up the league title this summer - a very proud moment for the coaches. Many of these girls now play in our senior squads and are making quite an impact!

Our super year 4-6 session

Having seen the year 6 girls in our Monday group from last season move on to our Friday sessions, we started in September to build a new group from our few remaining year 4s and 5s. We are now at capacity with 28 girls in this session, bringing with them enthusiasm and promise. We have divided the session to allow specific coaching appropriate to each year group and are seeing much improvement week on week. It is pleasing to see all the girls enjoying these sessions and it has been great fun coaching them. Louise and Sharon would especially like to thank Hannah and Emma who have assisted us at each session with our growing numbers this term.

Looking Ahead

Although we are only half-way through the season, we are mindful that our U16 girls will move on to senior netball after the summer and so we are starting to consider a team for the 2016/17 season. Recently, a group of our year 7 & 8 girls played a friendly against Windsor netball club and it was quite an eye opener! The competition really brought out a determination that we wouldn't necessarily see in training and the girls won the game quite convincingly. We will be considering a group from our year 7-9 session to enter into the league next season and look to form a squad in the new year. Hopefully, we will also be able to enter lots of our girls from various age groups into some spring tournaments, once the dates are available. Watch this space...

We also couldn't let the this term end without thanking Gemma Hill for assisting us with our Friday sessions. Your help Gemma has been much appreciated.
