Often times we are asked - what about the arts at Prestwick STEM Academy? What is offered for children who love STEM but also have artistic abilities? We know is that our fine arts program is alive and thriving! Each performance is a demonstration of their tireless work to get better at their craft.
Join us this week on December 12th for another special combined band and choir event hosted at Little Elm High School. Bring a friend and be ready to enjoy a spectacular event!
Staff Spotlight
This week our spotlight is on one of our Physical Education teachers here at PSA. One of the unique characteristics of a K-8 academy is that many of our elective teachers have the opportunity to teach a gamut of age groups. Here is what Ms. Schafer has to say about herself.
“Hi, my name is Natalie Schafer. I teach K-8 PE and sixth grade Pre-Athletics. This is my third year here at Prestwick and fifth year in education overall. I graduated from Texas Tech University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and minor in Exercise Sport Science. Initially, I thought I would use my degree in a hospital setting as a health and wellness coach, but after completing an internship in that field my senior year, I realized I wanted to make a bigger impact in the lives of others. I thought who better to encourage healthy habits in than children? That was the moment I realized I wanted to become a PE teacher, and I can honestly say I have never looked back.
My main goal as a PE teacher is to build positive attitudes toward physical activity that students will carry with them for the rest of their lives. I want to show my students that exercising doesn’t have to be dreadful or difficult; it can be fun! Seeing students having fun while engaging in physical activity brings me great joy. I strive to make my class an enjoyable experience for all, despite many different interests. One thing I love about being a specials/electives teacher is having the same students in my class for several years. Watching them grow as individuals and build on new skills each year is a very rewarding experience.
When I am not at school, my main hobbies include running, shopping and spending time with family and friends. During the summer, I spend most of my time at the lake riding jet skis and wake-surfing.”

180 Degree Program for 8th Graders
Dear Parents/Guardians,
On December 13th & 14th we will have a guest speaker from the 180 Degrees Program come to speak to the 8th graders at Prestwick STEM Academy. The presenter will discuss how to set boundaries, how to develop healthy relationships, the importance of abstinence until marriage, current Sexually Transmitted Disease/Sexually Transmitted Infection statistics, teen pregnancy rates, abusive relationships, and how past negative choices don’t have to define the future. There is a parent program at Prestwick STEM Academy on December 4th at 6:30pm to give you more information or you can view the 180 Degrees website www.my180degrees.org.
If you DO NOT allow your child to hear this presentation, then please download the form below and return it by Monday, December 10th. This program is geared toward 8th grade students and will be very beneficial. If you have any concerns, please call Toni Nelson at 972-947-9443 ext. 20023 or a member of our administration team at 972-947-9450. Thank you.
