September 28-October 2

Thank you!

Thank you to those families that were able to make it to our Classroom Connection Night. It was great to see you! For those that could not make it, I sent home a bright yellow packet that has some of our general classroom information.

What are we working on this week?

Character Education: Overview of basic school safety and general expectations

Reader's Workshop: Working on ways to determine main idea and supporting details. Students should always have a chapter book to read at school (from our media center, home, my classroom library, the public library, etc.)

Spelling/Word Study: Week #5. Students will typically receive their list on Mondays and then will have a test on Fridays. Please encourage your child to study his/her words each night.

Writer's Workshop: launching our writer's workshop

Math: Unit 1- Multiplication and Division

Science: Unit 1 - How Scientists Work

Social Studies/Health: these subjects are taught by Mrs. Kornder. Please check your child's agenda daily to see if they have homework in this area.

*Our class will be taking the math MAP test on Monday afternoon.

*October Book-it calendar will be coming home this week. This is an optional activity in my classroom, but every student should be reading at least 20 minutes/night whether they choose to participate or not. If a student chooses to participate, he/she should plan to hand in the calendar at the end of the month. Happy Reading!

*The Science Museum will be coming in to do a presentation about engineering for our fifth graders on Friday, October 2nd.

*Eagle Creek is doing a coat drive (both new and used coats are being collected for the community) from September 22-October 1.

*School pictures are Tuesday, October 6th. Smile!

*Read-a-thon envelopes are due by the morning of October 9th, so that you’re child can be eligible for prizes.

*Students received a red t-shirt , and Mrs. Koivisto would like students to wear these t-shirts every Friday to show our school pride!

*Our Read-a-thon will take place on Tuesday, October 13th during the school day. It is also slippers and sweats day. Get comfy and read!

*NO SCHOOL October 14th -16th (teacher workshop and fall break)
