MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL LAMBERT

Dear Parents,


This Friday, Dec. 7th is the second annual Festival of Lights! Our PTA is hosting this family event and I know that your family will have a great time. Come and join us for arts and crafts, food for sale, piñatas, and photos with Santa.

On Friday, Dec. 7th we are also hosting school tours for new kinders or any other family that is interested in attending Mariano Castro next year. Please sign-in at the office and the tour will begin at 8:45 a.m.

Are you a Five Star Family? When you participate in any meeting or event, it counts toward your Five Star Family status. All families who attend five or more are honored at a recognition dinner, hosted by the staff at Castro, in May.

Festival of Lights

The Mariano Castro PTA will be hosting the 2nd Annual Festival of Lights celebration on Friday, December 7th after school from 3:00-7:00 pm. There will be many foods for sale, activities, piñatas for each grade, and a photo opportunity on the stage in the MUR. Mark your calendar for the Festivities, Food, and Fun on December 7th!

Donations are needed for the food and activities. If you can donate $5, $10, or $20 please bring your donation to the Office. You can leave your money in an envelope labeled Festival of Lights-Donation. Place it in the CASTRO-PTA Big Blue Box so that supplies can be purchased before the event.

Walk-a-thon Update

It is time to return the Pledge Forms with the donation money to Castro. Collect your student’s green Sponsor Sheet and bring it into the office with the money for Castro. Every dollar helps our school and it is because of you! The donations can be placed in the CASTRO-PTA Big Blue Box in the office. Thank you very much for helping your child to raise funds for their school.

School meetings coming up. Open Enrollment for new MVWSD students starts Jan. 7.

Kindergarten information nights for neighborhood elementary schools are at 6 p.m. on Dec. 4. Please click here for a list of these events.

If your child turns 5 years old between September 2 – December 2 of the current school year, he/she may qualify for transitional kindergarten (TK). The info night for TK parents is December 11 at 6:00 PM at Theuerkauf Elementary.


For NEW students: Open Enrollment is from January 7-February 3 online. You can register your child for the 2019-20 school year when online registration opens on January 7 here: www.mvwsd.org/register. For CURRENT students in transitional kindergarten-7th grade: Parents will be asked by email to confirm enrollment in January 7 - February 3.

Check your PowerSchool Parent Portal Access now to prepare for open enrollment

The time for you to confirm your child’s enrollment for the next school year is coming up. Beginning Jan. 7, parents will be able to log on to the PowerSchool Parent Portal to enroll their children for 2019-20.


Make sure you have access now! By mid-December, you will be receiving an email containing your web access ID and password for your PowerSchool Parent Portal Account with instructions for a creating an account, if you don’t currently have one.


Many middle school parents currently use PowerSchool Parent Portal for elective selection and grades, assignment and attendance monitoring. Some elementary parents have accounts from past student enrollment processes.


To check your access, log on to https://ps.mvwsd.org/public/. If you have difficulty signing in, please contact your school office.
