REMINDER!
Increase in Positive Cases
Spencer has an increase of positive cases of COVID-19, and we wanted to remind all of our families of the precautions we can take to keep to stay safe.
-If someone in your house has tested for COVID-19, please stay home and let us know via the attendance line.
-Please use the self-reporting link below when indicating a positive test.
-Staying home if symptomatic
-Individuals should be very diligent about symptoms. If any symptoms listed below develop (including very mild symptoms), individuals are recommended to isolate and seek medical attention, including a PCR test. Individuals not identified as close contacts (i.e., continuing to attend school) are recommended to immediately isolate themselves and not attend school until a healthcare provider has ruled out COVID-19.
-Fever of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit
-Cough
- Shortness of breath
- Difficulty breathing
- Other early symptoms to watch for are runny nose/congestion, chills, body aches, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, headache, diarrhea, and nausea/vomiting
If you have questions, contact LCHD at 517-546-9850.
For more information, please see Livingston County Health Department's website at www.lchd.org.
Once Mr.Renner receives your child's name from the health department as a positive case, he will send (families identified as close contact) an email with a possible exposure date and a possible return date once the close contract tracing has been completed. After that, the Livingston County Health Department will contact you with options for quarantining.
*Please note: families will not be notified of which students have selected quarantine options in your child's class.
Please make sure your phone number listed on your child's emergency card is a cell phone number (if applicable). If your cell phone number is listed, you will receive a text message and an email from the health department if your child has been identified as a close contact. If you have a landline, you will only receive an email. Make sure your email is up-to-date as well.
To update your information, please log into Parent Connect and make the necessary changes.

Meet Celeste Woodard...
I graduated with my Bachelor's from CMU in 2007, and have been in the classroom ever since. My husband and I married in 2009. We have a two-year-old named Orion. In my spare time, I like scrapbooking, reading, singing, and taking walks as a family. I am very much looking forward to becoming part of the Brighton community!

LIBRARY UPDATE
It's Digital Citizenship Month!
Hi Spencer Families! I am so proud of all of our students for engaging in discussions on how to be safe online. If you would like to continue the discussion at home, please ask them about this. They may ask you if they can play Interland. It's a brilliant online game developed by Google to help teach our students how to be good Digital Citizens. They can access this at home through our Media Center website, or the direct link is below:
https://beinternetawesome.withgoogle.com/en_us/interland
And, for more parent resources on how to help keep our children safe online, with more fun and games to engage your children in this topic, go to: https://www.commonsense.org/education/family-resources
Together we can keep our children safe online!

All PTO Meetings, beginning 10/12, will be moved to 4:00pm, in the Media Center. Childcare will be provided.
Roadrunner Run
The 9th Annual Roadrunner Run is sneaking up on us! Next Friday, October 15th, we will be doing our annual fun run fundraiser. This is a family friendly event, held outdoors. We will have a DJ, snacks, and fun! We will be counting donations as they come in, so please send them in as soon as you are finished collecting! If we hit our top goal of $10,000, the class bringing in the most money will not only win the coveted Roadrunner Run trophy for the year, but will also get to turn Mr. Renner into an Ice Cream Sunday!
We cannot do this event without you! There are still several volunteer opportunities available - please take a look at the signup genius below to see where you can help out.

Next week is Homecoming for BHS, so we will be doing a Spirit Week to join the festivities!
Monday: No School
Tuesday: Favorite Team Day (wear something to showcase your favorite team/college)
Wednesday: Crazy Hair/Mustache Day (wear your hair as crazy as you want - the PTO will be providing fun stick-on moustaches for all!)
Thursday: Favorite Character Day (wear something showing us who your favorite character is)
Friday: Roadrunner Run Day! (wear your new Spencer shirts!)
Box Tops for Education
Our first Box Tops Challenge will be held October 11-22. If you have any clipped Box Tops laying around, please send them to school in a ziploc bag or envelope with your child's teacher clearly marked on it to earn credit for your class. Digital receipts from the beginning of the school year through 10/22 will be counted for this challenge. If you have not yet signed up for a Box Tops account, please do! If you use this link, and scan within the first 14 days of signing up, we both receive 20 bonus points for our school - win-win!
Halloween Event
This year's Halloween event will be held on October 28th from 6-8pm. We will be doing a trunk or treat and games. More information to follow, but if you would like to volunteer (decorate a trunk or man a game), please check out the Halloween Sign-Up Genius.
Please check out our Facebook page and/or website for the most up to date information this year.

Note From the Counselor
Counselor Corner!
Hello from your Elementary Counselor, Mrs. McKiddy! I have very much enjoyed our start to a great school year. I spent the month of September visiting classrooms for a social-emotional lesson centered around forming connections with peers and strengthening friendships. I have also increased visits with individual students needing social-emotional support. I am working hard to add some peer support groups by the end of the month! As the year progresses, I am continuing to connect with classroom teachers for referrals for students who are struggling or may need additional support. If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.
We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home! Please feel free to contact your counselor with any questions or concerns that you may have, and Mrs. Fox or Mrs. McKiddy will do their best to support your child.
