"When I am dead, you shall find Calais in my heart."
Early Life
Mary was born on 18 February 1516 at the Palace of Placentia in Greenwich, London. She was the only child of King Henry VIII and his first wife, Catherine of Aragon. Mary was a precocious child. At the age of nine, Mary could read and write Latin. She studied French, Spanish, music, dance, and perhaps Greek. Meanwhile, the marriage of Mary's parents was in jeopardy. Henry was disappointed at the lack of a male heir, and eager to remarry. So when Henry divorced Catherine. Mary was removed from the line of succession.
Rise to Power
When King Henry died, Mary became Queen of England. When protestants rebelled she executed them, by burning them on the stake, and torture. Her executions of Protestants led to the name "Bloody Mary". She died on November 17, 1558, so she ruled for 5 years.
Bloody Mary is a folklore legend consisting of a ghost, phantom or spirit conjured to reveal the future. She is said to appear in a mirror when her name is called three times.
