A MESSAGE FROM MR. LUCITA

Dear Jaguar Band Families,

Down to two! I'm still finding it hard to believe that we are already down to two weeks left of school. We are also down to two major items left for the Jaguar Band to wrap up the year. Let’s take a quick look at this week's schedule!

This week is our first marching camp with all students (winds, guard & percussion) in grades 8 - 11. The camp this week is Thursday 5 - 8 p.m., Friday 5 - 8 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. There will also be a celebration Saturday night for everyone from 6:30 - 10 p.m.! Let’s wrap up this year and kick off next with a wonderful time for all of our students!

The second of our two major events coming up is our Movement Camp in June! We are bringing in professional Dancer, Choreographer, and Movement Guru, Michael Rosales, and the Breakdown Camp!! There has been one change to this camp and that is the time! Mr. Rosales’s flight into Austin puts him reaching us later than anticipated. This means the Movement Camp will be in the evenings from 3 - 7 p.m. on both the 16th & 17th! Make sure EVERYONE puts this on their calendar because it is going to be incredible! Here is a link to his page where you can see a little of what to expect! https://thebreakdowncamp.com/ or https://youtu.be/5UtgnAuuA2U

The last couple of items are our section camps for percussion and recruitment of color guard. Percussion will continue their regular after-school rehearsal schedule this week. We are sooooo close to breaking the 50 member threshold for guard! We can do it! If you have any friends or know of students who might be interested, please invite them and bring them to our next camp this week! We need fewer than five people to reach 50!!

We have a major announcement coming soon! This is the introduction of our Student Leadership Team!! At the time of writing this week's letter, the names had not been finalized; however, they should be published by the time you read this! We are incredibly excited by this inspiring group of students! They have worked extremely hard getting ready for their auditions, with numerous hours of practice both on their instrument and marching. They have given much guidance in the development of our vision for our students and leaders this coming year, and we can’t wait to see them in action!! A huge congratulations to ALL of the candidates for a job well done!!

As we wrap up this week, please keep a close eye on the calendar, email, and Remind app for any last-minute changes due to weather, facilities, or the schedule!! Let’s finish strong and remember It’s a Great Day to be a Jaguar!!

Important information for parents: Jag Jog, Color Guard, and Spirit Gear!

May 20, 2021

ALL 2021-2022 PARENTS: Join in the FUN!

6:30 p.m., JHS Courtyard

* Help kick off the planning for the committees listed below for NEXT YEAR!

The Jaguar Jog and Color Guard committees are already gearing up for fall and looking for your help! They will host meetings this Thursday, May 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the JHS band hall. These meetings will end prior to our Marching Show Reveal Event at approximately 8 p.m. We hope you can join us!

Jaguar Jog 5k/10k

Be part of putting together our 3rd annual Jaguar Jog 5k/10k event to be held September 18. We’ve got a great Core Committee, and we have big goals this year! We want to make it our best event yet! Come learn more and be part of this fun community event! Questions: Contact our Committee Chair Joe Carter (jaguarjog@johnsonbands.com) or Shannon Cameron (secretary@johnsonbands.com).

Color Guard

Our Color Guard is growing, and we hope our committee does, too! At this meeting, we will begin discussing next year's color guard pep rally uniforms, other spirit items, and how we can each help make sure that next year's Color Guard is even more fun and successful than it was this year! Come learn more about Color Guard! Questions: Contact Ida Musgrove at president@johnsonbands.com.

Spirit Gear

Have an eye for design or have ideas for items you would like to see sold by our Spirit Gear Committee? Are you willing to help with merchandise sales at events? The more people we have willing to help us sell items at various events, the better! Come learn more and talk to Wendy Cordero to see if this will be a good fit for you. We have lots of ideas for this summer and fall and hope to host our own online stores so we have more control over what we sell while also maximizing our profit. Spirit Gear is an important part of our Fundraising Team! Questions: Contact Spirit Gear Committee Chair, Wendy Cordero, at spiritgear@johnsonbands.com or Fundraising VP, Carmen Sifuentes at vpfundraising@johnsonbands.com.

The Johnson Jaguar Band depends in large part on the fundraising efforts of the Band Boosters. Sponsorships are a very important part of fundraising. Our Sponsorship levels have been updated, and we have a lot of exciting options for businesses AND families! We ask that every family please share this brochure with anyone you know that has a business. We are eager to help promote businesses in our community that support the Jaguar Band! If you would like color copies of our Sponsorship Brochure, we are happy to provide them.
