Family Updates
Week of September 20, 2021
Mickle School Families,
- It is early in the school year, but students' learning is in full-swing with classroom lessons. In addition, dependent upon grade-level, students have completed different baseline measures that provide teachers with valuable information regarding student understanding to help inform instruction and reach students based upon their academic needs. The goal is to understand where students are the beginning of the year and then design planning and instruction focused on continual learning growth throughout the year.
- Our Mickle Back to School Night will be held on Thursday, September 30 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Back to School Night will be held in-person, providing you the opportunity to meet your child's teachers, classroom(s), and learn more about their school and instructional program.
- The Fall Book Fair is scheduled to take place for students during regular Library class times from Friday, October 1 through Friday, October 8. The evening Family Book Fair night will be held outdoors and is scheduled for Tuesday, October 5 (rain date: October 7).
- As a state requirement, students in grades 4, 5, and 6 will complete the Start Strong Assessment on October 4 (ELA session - G4, 5, & 6) and October 5 (Math session - G4, 5, & 6 and Science session - G6 only). While very similar in format to the NJSLA, the Start Strong Assessment only involves a single session for each subject-area to be completed within 60 minutes.
- Save the Date - Picture Day for Mickle students will be on October 13.
September Family Character Dare
- Character Dares are prompts and reflective conversations organized around specific character challenges (i.e., dares) that provide students, parents and staff with ideas, opportunities, and accountability to put character in action. Students will get character Dares once a week. Families will also get character dares to try out!

Kristen Lombardo's Counselor Information
Hello and welcome to the Counselor's Corner! My name is Kristen Lombardo and I am your child’s school counselor. I know that many of our students are full of worries about events that have taken place in their world throughout the last year and a half. They are longing for routine and structure. The counselors and administrators have worked hard this summer to put supports in place to help every student adjust to their return to school.
In an effort to reach every student, each month I will meet with your child’s class to present a different topic. This month we will focus on “Who is your school counselor and what do they do?” Your child will learn about me, my role in the school, and how they can access me if they need help.
I am available if you have any questions or concerns. It is important that we all work together. I can be reached by email at lombardok@eastgreenwich.k12.nj.us or by phone at (856)423-0412 ext. 1051. I look forward to working with you and your child.
"Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success."
