Curtis Chronicles
March 28, 2022
Hello from Curtis Principal, Sonya Pitcock
Cougar families,
We are excited to honor our Teacher of the Year, Mona Abdelkarim. Mrs. Abdelkarim is an amazing teacher and we are lucky to have her at CMS! We are also honoring Ms. Jenna Holbert as Rookie Teacher of the Year. Ms. Holbert started her teaching career with us this year and is doing great things as a first year teacher. We are proud of both of these teachers for being recognized by their peers.
We have also recognized Mrs. Linda Engel, our campus secretary, as our Paraprofessional of the Year. Mrs. Engel is a wonderful support for our campus and our families and many of you have probably talked with her at one point or another to help you with something. We congratulate all our campus award winners for their dedication to our school and students!
A reminder that the front of the building is for buses only for morning and afternoon pick up/drop off. We are seeing an increase in parents dropping off at the front of the building in the mornings and causing our buses to be delayed. Please be sure that you are dropping students on the gym side of the building in the morning. Thank you for helping us keep the transportation department on schedule to pick up Lowery and AHS students after dropping off CMS students.
Tutoring students who are being picked up after 4:30 will be sent out the front of the school. Parents are welcome to pick up at the front after 4:30 as that is our last bus of the day.
Our next round of MAP testing will be April 5 and 12. We are changing the format of the testing on those days to be closer to what STAAR testing will be like. Students will report to one classroom and take their tests in that classroom for the day. They will be able to take breaks and have normal lunch time with their friends. We will have altered lunch times, so dropping off lunches on those two days will not be allowed. We will use the MAP data to help us see what areas your child still needs extra support before taking the state tests in May. ALL students MUST bring their CHARGED chromebooks to campus for those testing days. Please help remind them about this so they are prepared. Thanks for your support!
We are continuing to encourage students to keep working hard and finish the year strong. We are proud of their work and growth this year and we want to support their success through that very last day! Thanks for all the support you provide at home. We are so lucky to partner with such great parents to support our students.
Sincerely,
Sonya Pitcock
Principal, Curtis Middle School
