"Stronger Together" - Week of November 16, 2020

Can't find the link to the virtual class meeting? Check your student's email inbox!

When your student is at home and cannot find the link to his/her virtual class meeting, be sure to check your student's email. Every student has a district-issued Gmail account. Your student's email address is his/her ID number followed by @auburn.k12.ca.us.

For example: let's say your student's ID number is 123456. You would log into your student's email using the email address 123456@auburn.k12.ca.us.

Your child's teacher can provide further support.

Thank you for checking your student's email whenever you can't find a meeting link!

Pull all the way forward at the drop-off/pick-up zone

For the sake of safety and courtesy, please be sure you do the following things when dropping off or picking up your student:

  1. Pull all the way forward at the drop-off/pick-up zone in front of the school. When you do not pull all the way forward before stopping, you impact the traffic behind you.
  2. Have your student exit your vehicle on the passenger side, so they step onto the curb. If they exit on driver's side, they step into the driveway, which is for moving traffic and a safety issue.
  3. Please remain in your vehicle. Say goodbye to your student and have them exit out the passenger side.

Morning drop-off can be a lot safer and faster when we all follow these expectations. Thank you for pulling all the way forward, having your student exit on the passenger side, and remaining in your vehicle during drop-off and pick-up time!

Last Chance! We Need Your Input!

If you haven't yet completed this survey, please do so by the end of the day on Monday, November 16!

Auburn Union School District will soon outline the specific details to expand our in-class instruction. The plan is being developed with input from parents and staff. We will be combining the A and B cohorts to provide five days of in-class instruction. Students who have chosen the “C” cohort will continue to receive synchronous and asynchronous instruction.

Please take a few minutes to complete this short survey by Monday, November 16th, so that we can gather additional input:

Reopening Survey (English)

Reopening Survey (Spanish)

If the link above does not work for you, please search your email inbox for the Superintendent Message for November 6, 2020. You will be able to find a link to the same survey in that message.

As has been the case with all things related to COVID, not everyone will agree with our plan to move to Phase 3. Whichever decision is made will result in celebration for some and disappointment for others. This is why it is so important that all of our families take the survey.

Our goal is to balance the academic and social-emotional needs of our students with the safety of our students and staff. We believe the plan we are developing will meet that goal.

Second Chance Breakfast During Morning Recess

If students do not have breakfast before school starts, there is a "second chance breakfast" in the cafeteria during their morning recess. Please note that second chance breakfast is a full meal - the student will receive an entree, fruit, and milk. Second chance breakfast is not a snack. Please send snacks with your child if you want him/her to have a snack at morning recess. Morning recess is brief - 15 minutes for Grades K-3 and 10 minutes for Grades 4-5. Students may need the full recess time for eating second chance breakfast.

Kindergarten Drop-off Options

If you are the parent of a kindergarten student, you can choose either of these options for morning drop-off:

  • Say goodbye to your kindergartner off campus. Your kindergartner will walk to the blacktop, place his/her backpack with the rest of his/her class, and either walk the "morning mile" or sit down and read a book from his/her backpack.

  • You can wait with your student at the flagpole in the bus zone. From there, you will be able to see the front door of your child's classroom. When you see the teacher open the door, you may send your student to class.

COVID Symptoms and Contact Procedures

Symptomatic students and staff -- Staff and students who have identified COVID -19 symptoms must stay home. This is particularly important if a staff member or student develops any of the “primary” symptoms that include; fever, trouble breathing, excessive coughing, and the loss of taste and/or smell. PLEASE stay home and notify Principal Schulz if you develop these symptoms! Our district Health Director, Melissa Davis, will then be contacted and will review the quarantine requirements with the affected individuals.

Close contact with a COVID-19 positive person -- If a staff member or student comes in close contact (less than six feet for more than 15 minutes in a day) with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19, please DO NOT come to school. Notify Principal Schulz immediately. Our district Health Director, Melissa Davis, will then be contacted and will review the quarantine requirements with the affected individuals.
