Celebrating National Poetry Month
April offers 30 days of celebrating the joy, expressiveness, and pure delight of poetry. Did you know poetry isn't just for English/Language Arts? Here are some activities that span across grade levels and subjects.
Poetic Inspiration
Poems come in a variety of shapes and forms. Whether it's a haiku, free verse, cinquain, epic, ballad, sonnet, limerick, acrostic, or blackout poem, there is certainly a form and style to fit the unique ideas of every student.
Poetry Breakout Activities
Creative teamwork with inventive poem based clues.
(Designed for elementary.)
(Great for elementary and middle school.)
Haiku Tunnel Books
These Haiku tunnel books are a creative way to display poetry. While the mathematical 5-7-5 style poems can be written to share an individual unique and creative idea, they can also act as a summary for a novel, overview of a scientific concept, or historical event in social science.
(Ideal for 4th - 12th grade.)
Poetry is Everywhere
