Rachel Ramont - GVSU
My name is Rachel Ramont and I am currently attending Grand Valley State University. I actually grew up here in Allendale, Michigan where Grand Valley is located and have lived right down the road from the university my entire life. However, I did not start my college career at Grand Valley. I recently transferred to GVSU in the Fall of 2020 after graduating from Muskegon Community College with my general associate's degree in the Spring of 2020. While attending MCC, I also played college softball! I have played softball my entire life and would not trade my experience of playing at the collegiate level for anything! However, after a lot of consideration I made the tough decision to turn down a couple of university level recruitment offers that I had received to continue my college softball career while playing at MCC. This was definitely not an easy decision for me, but I knew it was time to really focus on my education and begin a new chapter in my life! Not to mention, I really had no idea what I wanted to major in when I graduated from MCC.
I have always had a strong interest in becoming a teacher and after countless hours of research and trying to find the right career path, I came to the realization that I needed to stop trying to please others and simply follow my true passion. I have always had such a strong desire to help others, but also for being active and teaching the importance of taking care of your personal health. This is what brought me to become a part of the health and physical education program here at Grand Valley.
Since I have started the program, I have not had any doubts about this career choice and I am beyond excited to continue learning. Even though I have only had online experiences in this program this far, I have met so many truly amazing people in this profession! The passion and dedication of the individuals I have met in this profession from Grand Valley and SHAPE have already inspired me. I am looking forward to continuing to meet everyone and cannot wait to attend a SHAPE Michigan conference in person in the (hopefully) near future!"
