Classroom Update

Report cards were sent home with students Friday. Please keep the report card at home, but return the envelope with the signed blue sheet showing you received the report. Any questions/concerns, please let me know!

Tuesday, children's author Jane Clarke is visiting Claxton. Jane Clarke is the author of more than 70 books for children, including the award-winning Gilbert series. She lives in Kent, England, and will be visiting us in Asheville! We will view this in class as well, but here is some additional information about her.

All students are invited to purchase Jane's newest release at 20% off the cover price! They can use the link below to pre-order - this way they won't have to bring money in to school if they want a book. Those students will receive their copy on the 12th ready to be signed. A representative from Spellbound Children's Books will also be at school that day to sell books by cash or check payments. The discounted cost of the book applies to both online purchases and purchases made at school and is $11.11.

Our Learning Goals

Reading: Our fiction focus will be on folktales, reading Appalachian folktales and also comparing different versions of classic folktales. With nonfiction text we will continue to work on main idea and supporting details. We will be focusing heavily on written response as we approach the end of year MCLASS assessments.

Fundations: We will continue unit 11 focusing on long vowel sounds and the silent e at the end of words. These syllables are called vowel-consonant-e (v-e).

Writing: We will return our focus to informational writing as we further discuss how to research. Students will begin researching an animal of their choice.

Math: We will continue working with shapes this week and fractions. Students will learn how fractions relate to telling time to the hour and half hour.

Science: Don't forget to complete your moon journal nightly.

Social Studies: We will study at Appalachian history and how things have changed in this area over time.
