GLOBE Trot coming soon
Our biggest fundraiser, GLOBE Trot, is coming on Friday, October 22. We will hold the outdoor event in person on campus this year.
Students will have their own fundraising pages to send to their grandparents, friends, extended family, and neighbors to support their homeroom team and their school. We kick off GLOBE Trot on October 5, and still need volunteers for the GLOBE Trot Spirit Team during AM carpool. Sign up here.
Our goal is 100% participation and to raise $140,000. Every student gets a 2021 GLOBE Trot buff on the day of the event and if everyone participates, we get Kona Ice! We have awesome prizes this year including hour recess passes, money for the book fair, gift cards, and tickets to Zoo Atlanta or an Atlanta United soccer game. Please support those who support GLOBE.
Thank you to our Marathoner Level GLOBE Trot Sponsor, SafeSplash Swim School.
This Saturday is National Custodian Appreciation Day
We are very grateful for our custodians who are working extra hard to keep our community safe during the pandemic. If you'd like to show your support, perhaps your children can draw a picture or your family could send in a card expressing your gratitude.
Please send them in this Friday, October 1, and teachers will make sure they get to the custodians. The Lower Campus custodians are Mr. Robinson, Ms. Giles, Mr. Williams; on the Upper Campus, they are Mr. Craddock, Ms. Cortez, Mr. C. Robinson.

Admissions
Do you know of anyone who wants to enroll at GLOBE? If you believe you know a DeKalb county resident whose child would be able to qualify with language proficiency requirements, please share the opportunity with them. Have them apply for the post lottery, and email Admissions Director Meg Brown to learn more.
We have space in the classes below:
- 2nd grade Mandarin, French, and Spanish
- 3rd grade Mandarin, French, and Spanish
- 4th grade Mandarin and French
Upper Campus notes
- Parents of AM walkers, please walk your student(s) all the way to the crosswalk/traffic light before crossing Briarcliff to ensure they use the crossing safely.
- Absentees, please remember to email BOTH ucfrontoffice@theglobeacademy.net and the teachers whenever your student is absent, even if not for illness. This helps us to keep track of attendance. (LC parents, email lcfrontoffice@theglobeacademy.net).
- We are awaiting the growth of new grass on the new recreational area. Please stay off the property until we have received confirmation that the ground cover is sturdy enough for playing on.
Lower Campus notes
- Remember to pack a spare mask in your backpack. Always wear your mask correctly to cover both your mouth and nose.
- Please do not park on Briarwillow Drive. This has been in the Family Handbook for the past few years. Parking there, particularly in the afternoon, makes pedestrian crossing especially difficult.
- Some Lower Campus classrooms are working on a special project. Please save your empty and clean sanitizing wipes cylindrical containers. Send them in with your child(ren); their teachers will help them get to the right locations.
Covid Corner
If you or your child have tested positive or had close contact with someone who is positive please contact the appropriate school nurse, Lindsay Reese (Lower Campus) or Cherrie Robinson (Upper Campus), immediately. Click here to download the COVID handbook.
Communicating with GLOBE
- Weekly teacher emails: Every Friday, you will receive an email from each of your child's teachers, with details on what they're doing at school. Not receiving these? Please let us know. (You can of course email the teachers with any questions, too.)
- Remind text alerts: Remind is a service that we use to send time-sensitive alerts via text message. (There's also an app available.) If you haven't yet signed up for this, please do so by texting @globers to 81010 for whole school updates.
For Upper Campus messages, send a text message to 81010 with the message @ucgl
For Lower Campus messages, send a text message to 81010 with the message @lcgl
- GLOBE website: This is a go-to source for enduring information. (There's a search option in the top right corner to make it easier to find what you need.)
- GLOBE Facebook page: Don't use social media? No problem. While we know Facebook is useful for many, any critical information shared here will also be shared on other channels.
Board of Directors meetings
GLOBE's governing board comprises volunteers who lead committees focused on Academics, Communication, Development, Diversity, Facilities, Finance, and Strategic Planning; this year, a committee will also convene to renew GLOBE's charter. If you are interested in serving on a committee, please contact board chair Ryan Hudak.
