GOOD NEWS
Widefield School District 3 ~ April 3, 2020
Thank You Volunteers!
A HUGE shout out to all our employees who have volunteered the past three weeks to help distribute meals to children in our community. We had to plan very quickly using the resources we had and like always our amazing staff stepped up to the challenge. Our nutrition services staff have also done an outstanding job of prepping meals every day to make sure we feed families. In three weeks, we have distributed more than 10,000 meals to children. Our community has been very appreciative and shown gratitude through thank you cards and goodies for volunteers.
Parks & Rec Supports Distance Learning
Widefield Parks and Recreation is here to support our community's distance learning experiences with #WPRatHome! Join each day on WPR Facebook page for themed arts and activities to keep your kids moving and creating. When classes have resumed, Widefield Parks and Recreation will choose three participants of #WPRatHome for a free aquatics pass and the next Night Owlz enrollment or their choice of an upcoming youth sport. For entries, share photos of the finished crafts or families doing the recommended activity with the hashtag: #WPRatHome. Each photo counts as one entry!
WHS Orchestra Disney Trip
The Widefield Chamber Orchestra traveled to Orlando Florida for the ASTA (American String Teachers National Conference). The group was invited to perform at the National Conference this year. Only 30 high schools from around the country were invited to participate. WHS also had the opportunity to hear other schools perform. The students had a great time at the event as well as a side trip to Disney World. (Photo courtesy: Sara Miller)
Forensics "Alumni of the Year"
Stephanie Owen, Widefield High School forensics coach, won the "Alumni of the Year" award in forensics for all of southern Colorado. She was nominated and recognized for this award because she used to compete for her high school forensics team (Wheaton North High School) from 2000-2002. Since graduating, Stephanie has continued to serve the forensics community by being the forensics coach for WHS for the past 13 years, serving on the CHSAA state tournament committee for the past six years, and being a district committee member for the National Speech and Debate Association for the past five years. Congratulations Stephanie!! (Photo courtesy: Stephanie Owen)

Widefield of Dreams Student
Kaleb Gramsch, 8th Grader at Sproul Junior High, is making a huge leap in his education! Kaleb has been accepted to attend the private Fountain Valley School of Colorado (FVS) starting in the 2020-2021 school year. His love for animals drives his passion in showing livestock competitively through 4H and has won many awards. He has raised rabbits, chicken, goats, and horses and other animals on his grandma’s land right here in Widefield. Kaleb applied to FVS on December 16 by writing numerous essays along with an introduction interview. Once accepted, Kaleb was able to apply for a scholarship that will cover 50 percent of his tuition. With the scholarship and financial aid, Kaleb is able to attend FVS at very little cost. He is interested in FVS’s equestrian program and hopes to become a veterinarian or zoologist and attend CSU Fort Collins.
