ISA Testing for MYP Students
0900-1220 Wednesday 10 February, ISA Tests Part 1 - Grades 6-10 (testing starts after advisory)
0905-1135 Thursday 11 February, ISA Tests Part 2 - Grades 6-10 (testing starts after assembly)
1135-1230 Thursday 11 February, ISA Science tests - Grades 7-10
Classes take place as normal after the testing.
The ISA tests are standardised tests in mathematics, reading, and writing and science from Grade 7. At Halcyon, teachers use the results of the tests to help plan the curriculum to meet your individual needs. A copy of your test results is sent home, but the results do not affect your MYP grades or term reports. You do not need to study for these tests.
The ISA tests are online tests that can be taken on an iPad or on a laptop. You do not need to bring any special materials but will need a fully charged device and you may like to use a keyboard with your iPad if you have one. If your first language is not English, you may use a translating dictionary and you should bring a paper dictionary to the test as you will not be able to access electronic dictionaries. You may use your TINspire iPad calculator or any other calculator on the math test. You cannot share dictionaries or calculators.
Each test lasts about 45 minutes but the tests are not time limited - you may continue working longer. Students who qualify for extra time in examinations will be encouraged to use the time they need. There are breaks between each test and healthy snacks and drinks will be provided during the breaks. You may also bring a filled water bottle to the tests.
You will have a practice trial of the tests in a math, science and English class during the week of 01 February. The purpose of the practice is to get used to the online format and the style of the questions. These practice tests are not marked and do not affect your final results.
Shortened timetable Wednesday 03 February
Dina's Guest Speaker Programme
Dear Students,
I will be starting a guest speaker programme soon. In order for this to happen I need information on what the students / parents / teachers want to hear about. Please take 5mins to complete the two forms below.
The first form is about drawing and art as the first guest speaker is an artist.
The second form is about the speakers you might want to hear from. You can recommend speakers and volunteer to give talks.
The events are open to all students, staff members and parents. People outside the community can attend also, but they have to attend with someone form the school community.
Best wishes,
Dina, Grade 11
Don’t React® to this - Politics Society
Wednesday 1220 - 1245 in S01
This week we move from discussions about the surveillance of our online movements to the online world itself following the announcement that The Fine Bros, a 13 million subscriber strong youtube channel announced they have trademarked React videos, oh and several other words including "react" and "try not to laugh while watching this".
In exchange for 30% of your total ad revenue and 20% of total channel sponsor revenue, you can charitably be granted access to their new license for react videos, otherwise, they'll see you in court. The film making and online community have responded in outrage and the trademark will be up for debate on Tuesday in LA courts.
