Parents & Guardians; We're Listening! Take our QUICK School Improvement Survey by Feb. 6th! This is the 3rd mini-survey in a series of 6.
In order for us to continue to improve our school district and our school, it is important for us to understand your experience about the job we are doing in providing a quality education for your children. The survey will take you only 1-2 minutes per child (please take one survey per child that you have in the Yakima School District). Your feedback is important and we want to know what you believe are our strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you!

Congratulations to Mrs. Brenda Rodriguez, one of Roosevelt's dedicated, talented paraprofessional educators! Mrs. Rodriguez was awarded our staff rotating award, the Spirit of the Bear Award, for the week of January 23rd.
Here's what Ms. Debbie Goins wrote when nominating Mrs. Rodriguez:
- It is my pleasure to pass the Spirit of the Bear Award to the next very deserving member of our staff who shows excellence in all she does, Brenda Rodriguez. Brenda is a priceless addition to the Bear Team. Her gentle and quiet demeanor garnishes respect and compliance from our students. I've seen her "tame" the most fierce, angry students and guide them toward making wise decisions to grow both academically and socially. She's not afraid to tackle any challenge tossed her way with a positive and determined attitude. She joined our staff with a wealth of information about the programs offered in YSD, and her expertise has contributed significantly to the academic growth of our students. I feel so lucky that she is working with my struggling readers. She has demonstrated skill in helping them grow tremendously. Thank you for all you do, Brenda. You are amazing!
Congratulations to our 4th-grade teacher, Mrs. Debbie Blodgett-Goins for maintaining her National Board Certification! The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certifies a select number of teachers nationwide who have demonstrated that they teach to the highest professional standards. Nationwide, only 3% of all teachers hold National Board Certification! Congratulations, Mrs. Goins, on your well-deserved recognition!
As a convenience to YSD staff, students, and members of their households, the Yakima School District has coordinated vaccine clinics (see dates/times below) at school sites. The vaccines that will be available at the clinics are—
- COVID-19 first, second, and booster
- First vaccines for children age 5-11 (parent/guardian must be present).
We will host vaccine clinics during the following dates/times.
- January 26 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Washington Middle School.
