PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Rachel Sherman, a Lopez 6th grader and former Hardy Oak student, led the Hardy Oak Peer Support (HOPS) Tutoring Program this school year for her Girl Scout Silver Award Project. The program met weekly on Wednesday mornings before school to provide extra support for math skills, reading fluency, spelling practice and homework help. The target audience were students in Kindergarten through 4th grade. The HOPS tutors included 5th graders as well as Lopez Middle School students. The program served an average of 45-50 students per week and ran from September through May. You are awesome Rachel! Check out the picture below with Rachel, Mrs. Folkes and myself.
June 6th is the last day of school and there will be final exams up to June 5th. Plus, our end of year awards assemblies are on the last two day, with 6th grade being on June 5th and 7th and 8th grades on June 6th. Please make sure you do not make vacation plans too early. Teachers often continue to design and adjust the exam right up until test day so, we will not be able to test early. This means you might have to return in the summer to take them and finish the year.

LOPEZ PANTHERS LEAD, SERVE AND INSPIRE
Parents/Guardians
Celebration! Lopez MS is the 1st Leader in Me Lighthouse Middle School in Texas! Leader in Me teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. During the months of April/May our school will be conducting surveys to learn more about key areas of strength and areas of needed growth in our school. The data from these surveys will also help us track the impacts of The Leader in Me process and implement key practices more fully. In order for us to have a holistic picture of what is going on in our school we are asking all full-time staff members, parents/guardians, and students to participate.
If you decide participate, you will be asked to complete a survey (without sharing your name or other identifying information) that will be available through a web link . The survey is completely voluntary, but we do hope to get feedback from one member of every household. The parent/guardian survey takes about 12 minutes to complete and will ask questions about your child and about his/her experience in our school. If you have more than one child attending the school, you will be asked to think about the oldest child’s experiences as you answer questions related to their growth.
