Middleton Monthly
October 2021
Middleton Elementary Families-
Along with building a strong classroom community, we have focused on building a strong Middleton culture. One way we do this is through the morning announcements. On the morning announcements, we have recognized our Good News Call of the Day students and celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month.
Each school has been charged with creating a Student Ambassador Group of 4th and 5th grade students that represent our student population. The Middleton Student Ambassador Group will be consist of 10 Middleton students. Invites to students and letters to parents will go out at the beginning of next week. One student from the Middleton Student Ambassador Group will represent Middleton at the District Youth Advisory Committee. I will introduce the Middleton Student Ambassador Group in the November Middleton Monthly.
THANK YOU to all of you that participated in the Walk or Bike to School Day on Wednesday! I was so impressed with the number of participants we had! It was great to see so many of you walk or bike to school!
Finally, the purpose of this Middleton Monthly is to provide you with information and updates on the following topics: Stability and Technology for Our Kids, Family COVID Testing, Good News Call of the Day students for the month of September, Jostens picture information, and Community Education classes.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us!
Remember....It's a GREAT day to be a Mustang!
Sincerely,
Mr. Arthur Williams, Principal

Vote 2021 - South Washington County Schools
Below, you will find very useful information for the upcoming questions to increase school funding on the November 2 ballot. More information can be found at the following website: https://www.sowashco.org/vote2021. On this site, you will also find information on:
- News and Updates
- Questions and Answers
- Resource Toolkit
- Tax Impact
- Voting Information
The SoWashCo Schools budget is currently operating with a 4.7% fund balance which equates to 2.5 weeks of operational costs.
Like most Minnesota school districts, our current expenses (the money going out) is projected to exceed our revenue (the money coming in). Our goal is to present a balanced budget to our taxpayers every year. State and federal funding makes up 74% of the money coming into the district. Those dollars have not kept pace with inflation and the increasing costs of educating a child in Minnesota. Additionally, the money needed to fund education is not determined by the school board of the school district, rather it is by the state legislature. On July 15, 2021 the school board unanimously approved asking voters to consider increasing school funding on the Nov. 2 ballot.
Family COVID Testing Information
With the rise in COVID-19 cases county and school-district-wide, we wanted to remind families, SoWashCo is offering Free Vault COVID-19 saliva test kits to all students. Testing is very easy and only takes a few moments to complete. Tests are to be taken Wednesday evenings and returned to the Health office Thursday mornings by 10:00 a.m.
Do not take the tests before Wednesday at 5:00 P.M, for accurate results they need to be at the lab and tested within 24 hours of the time they are taken. Tests are sent out by 10:00 a.m. each Thursday.
Remind your student to drop the completed test off right away in the morning.
How Vault COVID-19 Testing Works:
Pick up a Vault COVID-19 test at no cost from the school’s health office anytime before end of the school day Wednesday
Create a Vault account with a username and password @ www.covid.vault.co
Complete the COVID-19 test at home with help from Vault test supervisors over Zoom
Students under 18 will need a parent or legal guardian present at the time of the test to provide consent
Seal the sample tube and place it in the biohazard zipper bag
Bring completed and sealed tests to the school’s health office on designated collection days
Staff at school cannot help students administer the test. The test must be completed and sealed prior to bringing it into the school building

Good News Call of the Day
At Middleton, students have the opportunity to earn a MES Positive Office Referral. It is my goal, for every school day, to select one of the MES Positive Office Referrals to be the Good News Call of the Day. If selected, the student comes to my office and makes a phone call home to parent/guardian to recognize the great work they are doing at school. I was so impressed with the number of MES Positive Office Referrals that are turned in on a daily basis.
- Annaniah K. - 5th grade
- Camille H. - 4th grade
- Elijah B. - 2nd grade
- Griffin N. - 2nd grade
- Henry H. - 3rd grade
- Jaydon D. - 4th grade
- Kanon O. - 4th grade
- Lucy P. - Kindergarten

The above students were recognized for things such as being kind to others, lending a helping hand, and doing the right thing even when no one is looking. We are all very proud of these students for their hard work.
