Summary of the Ranger's Apprentice Book 7: Erak's Ransom
Young man Will Treaty is about to become a full-fledged Ranger, but he must first survive the heat of Arrida. Skandian Oberjarl Erak has been captured by his most hated enemy, Toshak in Arrida. Ranger Halt and Princess Cassandra embark on a quest with Will to save Erak. The three of them make allies and enemies with some of the natives living in Arrida. Halfway through the journey, Will loses his beloved horse Tug during a sandstorm, and sets off alone to find him in the searing heat of the desert. Oberjarl Erak was first ransomed by Selethen, leader of the Arridi. Enemies became friends between the two of them when they were captured by Toshak and kept prisoner. Will makes friends with the Bedullin people while on his search for Tug. The book was written in 3rd person because a narrator is telling the story.
Theme
This book's theme is about friendship. Will makes friends and discovers what the meaning of a true friend is constantly throughout the book and series. I can relate this to my own life because I am daily reminded of a true friend's kindness. During my whole life, I have had friends who helped me make decisions, and people who I thought were my friends abandoned me in my time of need. By reading the Ranger's Apprentice series, I have realized that for people to make a lifetime long friendship with someone, all they have to do is bring out the fun and kindness in them. In Will's case, he was funny and made friends easily. In real life, people just have to be kind to make a long-lasting friendship.
Oberjarl Erak-Ransomed Skandian leader, also Will's friend
Ranger Halt- Will's instuctor and prisoner of Toshak
Will Treaty-Apprentice to Halt, fought in battle to release prisoners
Important Scene
I chose these three pictures for the important scene because each of the characters above played a major role in this particular chapter of the book. Erak was the ransomed Skandian and he fought fiercely for his freedom in the battle Will started. Will Treaty shot the first arrow into the enemy tribe and started the battle, which is why I chose him as an important character. Ranger Halt was very emotional during the escape because he had believed that Will would find them and save them all along and he had. He was also emotional because Will had come back with Tug.
