2019 Mental Health Awareness Week Recap
The CHS Mental Health Awareness Week took place during the week of February 4-8, 2019. Our theme this year was "Get Connected" and below is a recap of the activities that took place.
This year CHS took the Random Acts of Kindness challenge district wide and challenged all the schools and our District Office to perform a random act of kindness and spread joy across the community to kick off our Mental Health Week. All buildings participated and we think they did a great job!

Daily Mindfulness Minutes
Throughout Mental Health Awareness Week we had activities to encourage students and staff to take time out of their day to relax, calm their brains and have some mindfulness time. In classrooms many teachers provided mindfulness minute exercises that allowed students a break from the stress of the day!
Monday February 4th
On Monday, students and staff wore pajamas for our spirit day and participated in Would You Rather cards during lunch to stimulate conversation among students.
Tuesday February 5th
On Tuesday, students and staff wore beach clothing for our spirit day to encourage them to "Stay Afloat". Over 120 SRT classes participated in a Name That Tune game for fun prizes! Songs were themed around mental health and getting connected!
Wednesday February 6th
On Wednesday, our spirit day for students and staff was to wear sweatshirts to encourage everyone to "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff". Decks of cards were placed at the tables to get students playing card games. Students took that opportunity to play rummy and go fish among other games. "Playing a simple game of Go Fish just let me calm down and have fun with my friends" Deion Ziwawo, CHS Junior.
Parent Awareness Night
We hosted our Parent Awareness Night on Wednesday with 9 different sessions covering Anxiety and Depression, Vaping, Social Media and Parenting Tips. Parents had the opportunity to listen to knowledgeable professionals and discuss topics of interest or concerns. This event also highlighted resources and support services that are available to students and families across the district.
Thursday February 7th
Thursday was our Fandom Spirit Day. Staff and students were encouraged to highlight what they are a fan of (Harry Potter, Colts, Disney). During SRT a club day was hosted in the Varsity Gym to get student connected to the over than 100 clubs that CHS has to offer.
Friday February 8th
Friday's spirit day was Blue and Gold! Love on a Leash brought eight of their highly skilled therapy dogs to remind students to take a break from their day and put a smile on everyone's face.
