Kia ora e te whānau,
After a few weeks of attendance percentages sitting in the low 70s, I am pleased to report that our attendance has climbed back into the 80s. Whilst this is still significantly lower than our usual high 90s, it is still much higher than the national average. We would like to thank our TNIS whānau and community for supporting us as we work hard to provide a safe learning environment. Please do take a look at our Covid Safety Plan for clarification around our protocols. We encourage you to send your tamariki to school as their ability to learn and socialise face-to-face is paramount to developing their confidence at intermediate school.
Our kaiako (teachers) have delivered a wonderful Unit of Inquiry over the past few weeks and evidence of our learners' engagement can be seen in the work they have been producing. Please read about our PYP programme below and have look at the gallery of work.
Wellbeing is alive and well in our school. I was struck by the sentiments that our tamariki expressed in an exercise on Gratitude. Their words are priceless - take a look at what they are grateful for below.
Talking of being grateful, we are looking forward to our EOTC days and the wonderful activities in store for our learners. Thank you to our parent volunteers as we would not be able to offer these opportunities without your support, which is very much appreciated.
Ngā mihi me kia pai tō koutou whakatā!
WEEKLY FOCUS
Hononga - Make connections with others.
Ako - Everyone is a learner
Ako
We have started off 2022 with an exploration into "How We Express Ourselves." Our TNIS learners have been inquiring into the concept of identity and spent time exploring how culture, values and beliefs influence their own and others' identities. Many classes have explored biographies and this has been a great chance to connect or reconnect with family and friends living both here and overseas. As we wrap up this unit and move onto our summative task, learners have also looked into the bicultural heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand and what it means for us living in New Zealand in 2022. It has provided some thought-provoking questioning and discussions. Have a look t some of the fantastic work that has come out of this inquiry below.
Starting in Week 9, we will begin our second Unit of Inquiry for 2022; "Who We Are." This will focus on using our understanding of the human body to help us make responsible decisions that maintain our well being/hauora. Our puberty lessons, organised by Mr James, for 2022/2023, will also be covered during this unit which always provides for some engaging discussions. Mr Ford, our specialist science teacher, has been working closely with the PYP team to ensure we have some great experiments and even a dissection to enjoy during this inquiry. We look forward to getting stuck in and learning about our amazing bodies!
