Computer Programmer
By: Daniel Lopez
Introduction
I started thinking about this career when I went to my brothers school to see what he does. I really enjoy technology and do things with my hands. I took one class in Mexico about softwares and I really like it. Computer Programmer write code to create software programs. They turn the program designs created by software developers and engineers into instructions that a computer can follow. If a program does not work correctly, they check the code for mistakes and fix them.

Education and Training:
Most computer programmers have a bachelor’s degree.
Most programmers get a degree in computer science or a related subject.
Programmers who work in specific fields need to take specific classes in that field to supplement their degree in computer programming.
Preferred Job Skills:
Analytic skills: Computer programmers must understand complex instructions in order to create computer code.
Concentration: Programmers must be able to work at a computer, writing lines of code for long periods of time.
Detail oriented: Computer programmers must closely examine the code they write because a small mistake can affect the entire computer program.
Job Outlook:
Employment of computer programmers is projected to grow 8 percent from 2012 to 2022.
Salary:
The starting annual wage for computer programmers is $74,500 per year.
Work Environment:
They usually work in offices, most commonly in the computer systems design and related services industry.
- Programmers normally work alone, but sometimes work with other computer specialists on large projects. Because writing code can be done anywhere, many programmers telecommute.
High School Preparation
Related Courses at Leyden:
TSI: Students are trained to listen, observe, and assess general end-user issues. The hands-on classroom environment gives students the opportunity to learn how to troubleshoot hardware, software, and network problems, as well as process service tickets and inventory stock.
Coding and Computer Repair: Students in Coding & Computer Repair receive an introduction to coding and the fundamental concepts of computational thinking with an additional focus on computer hardware and repair.
Extra-Curricular Activities: The only club that Leyden offer related to this career is TSI.
According to College of engineering Department of Computer Science of the University of Virginia Tech, they said that the most important to take in high school for type of careers is Math, Physics, Chemistry and English.

My Post-Secondary Plan
Programmers can become certified in specific programming languages or for vendor-specific programming products. Some companies may require their computer programmers to be certified in the products they use.
Programmers who have general business experience may become computer systems analysts. With experience, some programmers may become software developers. They may also be promoted to managerial positions. For more information, see the profiles on computer systems analysts, software developers, and computer and information systems managers.
Many students gain experience in computer programming by completing an internship at a software company while in college.
