Tam District Family Update

THANK YOU TEACHERS!!
While reflecting on some of the amazing examples of strong instructional practices I have witnessed during my time in the Tam District, I am reminded my own learning experiences. Ms Collins was my 9th grade English teacher. She was demanding and frank, and she opened my eyes, mind and heart to the world of literature. After years of struggling to read due to dyslexia, I found myself engrossed in every word we read that year. It was the first time I was able to keep pace with the reading schedule set by a teacher, which boosted my confidence in reading and allowed me to engage in conversations with my peers around what I had gleaned from the pages read. I fell in love. I fell in love with characters, stories and authors such as Willa Cather, Charlotte & Emily Bronte, Rudolfo Anaya, and many, many more. To this day, when things get tough and I find myself adrift, I reach for a book in which to escape and explore another world. Reading always manages to re-ground me in what is most important. I owe Ms Collins a lifetime worth of gratitude for opening my world to the wonder and beauty of books.
Thank the Ms. Collins of your learning experience. And yes, I find myself reading quite a bit these days.
