Welcome to Our House "Where Character Matters"

WELCOME BACK!

Dear Botsford Families,

Welcome back to an amazing year of growing and learning together. As we quickly move past our first full week of school, I can't tell you how pleased I am with the start of the 2017-2018 school year at Botsford. Our Botsford Bobcats showed up on our first day and handled the new arrival changes with ease.

I want to commend our entire staff for their hard work, preparation and commitment to kicking off the new school year with success. Thank you to our families for being sensitive and flexible to the new changes at Botsford.

I hope you find this newsletter helpful. Each week you will be informed about upcoming events, you will be provided with friendly reminders about procedures and policies and finally you will be updated about the BUZZ at Botsford.

The A, B, C's of our Botsford Bus Loop for Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures

Our parking lots can be intimidating, if you follow these simple rules, it's a breeze:

Always follow the instructions of the staff members on duty at arrival and dismissal.

Be cautious and considerate of other drivers AND students walking on our school grounds.

Consider parking in a spot and walking your child to the front entrance. At dismissal it is best to park and then walk to the safety pickup area at our NORTH exits.

What is the Wiggle Walk and why should my child participate?

The Wiggle Walk is an opportunity for students to get some exercise and social time before the school day begins. The Wiggle Walk is supervised by the principal or other designated adult. Students are invited to eat breakfast at 8:00 and then report to the Wiggle Walk. Breakfast must be eaten in the cafe’. Students are dismissed to the classroom at 8:30. Breakfast is served until 8:30.

There is no supervision on the playground before the school day begins. If you would rather not have your child participate in the Wiggle Walk you will want to bring your child to school no earlier than 8:25. All students who come to school before 8:25 will be told to report to the gym for Wiggle Walk.

EMERGENCY CARDS

It is VERY IMPORTANT that emergency cards be filled out completely , both sides, and returned to school. Please be sure to include updated address information and phone numbers that can be reached in case of an emergency. We will need 3 additional local emergency contacts listed in the order you would like us to contact them in. Please remember that we will not release your child to anyone not listed on the emergency card. Anyone picking up a child at the office must show a photo identification in order for the child to be released. IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU UPDATE THESE EMERGENCY CARDS IF THERE ARE ANY CHANGES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR!

FREE OR REDUCED LUNCH FORMS

If your family qualifies for the free or reduced lunch program, you must fill out new form each year. Even if your child was eligible last year, you must complete a new form by Friday, September 15th. Forms are available in our front office and are available on the district website.

FORMS TO BE RETURNED TO SCHOOL:

  • Your child's updated emergency card with 3 local emergency contacts
  • Transportation Form
  • Free or Reduced Lunch Form (optional)
  • Photo Release Form

WE LOVE VOLUNTEERS AT BOTSFORD

If you are interested in volunteering at school you need to complete an iChat form. These forms are available on our office. You will need to submit a copy of your driver's license for a brief background check. Volunteering includes assisting in the classroom and participating on field trips as a chaperone.

1 BOOK 1 SCHOOL at Botsford

Each morning our Botsford Bobcats will gather around their teacher to hear a brief portion of the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio. This moment of sharing creates a common language for our community centered around choosing kindness. The story has 8 parts and will be shared over several months. You will see quotes about kindness in our building. You might see student work showcased in our hallways with a focus on kindness. You might even hear your son or daughter talking about the book and it's characters.

This 4 minute video is meant to share our hopes for our own book study this Fall. Feel free to ask questions and if you would like more information please see Christine Teff in the office or ask your child's teacher. We are so excited to share this book with your child and we hope everyone chooses KIND!
