Dr. Marscher's Message
While thoughts of summer excite many students, there is also the complicated feeling of leaving this year's teacher and classmates behind, without knowing exactly where they will land in August. While our teachers do many activities and engage in many conversations to support this transition, the emotional toll of holding two very different emotions at the same time is emotionally draining, and challenges their stamina.
We ask that you help your child by maintaining good sleep hygiene during this time of year, and that you meet them with understanding and boundaries when old behaviors resurface or when tears seem to fall for no identifiable reason. Help them to focus on the good, ask them about the best part of today, this month, or this year!
Another helpful conversation is to remind them that they have done this before. This conversation might sound like, "I know you're feeling upset right now. It is normal to have upset feelings when something that you have known for a long time is coming to an end. I just want to remind you that you have done this before! Last year, you were sad to leave Ms. Jones, but you have had such a good year with Ms. Martinez! You've learned how to do fractions, all about pollinators, and got to do the Freedom Trail! So, even though it feels hard right now, I know you can do this."
We are looking forward to walking these times of joy and good memories with your students, and will continue to support them through their end of year journeys!
