PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
In the last newsletter I talked about a group discussing our playground situation and what we can do to utilize the large area in the back as well as improving the drainage on the smaller area. If you are interested in hearing more and being able to voice your ideas and opinions, please attend the C.P.T.O. meeting on April 3rd at 6:15 pm in the Library. I hope to see you there!
It seems funny to have to write this next section but it is already that time of year where the office starts to begin to think about next year. Yes, next year. A lot of effort goes into making balanced class lists for the following school year. Teachers spend time collaborating, looking at academic ability, personalities, learning styles, special circumstances, as well as boy/girl ratios. It is our goal to create a class that will work and learn well together. If you have an academic learning request to share regarding your child, please contact the office and a form will be sent home for you to fill out. These forms will then be given to the teachers after I look at them as the process of creating class lists begins. All forms must be turned in to me by Tuesday, April 11th.
Our March sure has come in like a LION. I do hope it goes out like a LAMB and we can have some nicer weather with no more snow. Please contact me with any questions or concerns you have about your child or school.
Mrs. Michalski
WHAT'S HAPPENING AT ABRAMS?
Notes from the Office
Child Find (Developmental) Screenings On Friday, April 21 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Oconto Falls Elementary School. Child Find activity is available for children age 2 1/2 to 4 years of age. Developmental screenings are provided by the Early Childhood staff at no cost to parents. The screenings are play-based and fun for children. A typical screening session lasts about 20-30 minutes. You will receive feedback that day about ideas, possible resources and whether or not a more in-depth evaluation appears warranted. If you have concerns regarding your child's development, please call Ann LaChapell, Special Education Secretary at 920-848-4443 Ext. 1, or Becky Halverson, 848-4476 ext. 3145 to schedule an appointment.
Open Enrollment: This year's Open Enrollment application period will take place between February 1st and April 28th. The Wisconsin Open Enrollment program allows children to attend public school in a school district other than the one in which they live. Early and late applications will not be accepted. Parents may apply online at http://oe.dpi.wi.gov. If you do not have access to a computer, call or stop in at the district office. Is Your Child Too Sick for School Today? Part 2 of 2
It is not always easy to decide if your child is sick enough to stay home or well enough to be in school. Children who come to school are expected, with few exceptions, to participate fully in school activities. Here are some guidelines to follow:
Rashes
Rashes or patches of broken, itchy skin need to be examined by a doctor if they appear to be spreading or not improving. Do not send a child with a rash to school until your doctor has said that it is safe to do so.
Students with Chicken pox may return to school when all the scabs are completely dried and no new lesions are developing (usually 5-7 days).
Pain
Toothache- consult with dentist
Earache- Earaches aren’t contagious, there is no need to keep a child home with a mild earache, as long as he/she feels well enough to concentrate. If Earache is severe or persistent consult your child’s healthcare provider.
Headache- A child whose only complaint is a headache usually does not need to be kept home. Consult with your child’s healthcare provider if headaches occur frequently or the headaches are severe.
Pink Eye
If you notice that your child has a pink eye with thick drainage, itching, pain or sensitivity to the light, you will need to contact your child’s healthcare provider. Your child may return to school once the doctor gives the OK.
Injuries
If a student has an injury that causes continuous discomfort; the student should not attend school until the condition is checked by a doctor or it improves. Injuries that interfere with class participation need a medical evaluation. If participation in physical education classes or recess is not recommended, a medical excuse is required.
If you have any questions regarding your child’s health condition, please contact Lynette Donart, the district nurse at 848-4467 ext. 6, or your health care provider.

Community and District News
Medications:
Do you have medications at home that you no longer need? You can now drop off these medications at the Oconto Falls Police Department inside Oconto Falls City Hall Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Do not drop sharps/needles/syringes in any of the medication drop boxes; instead take them to HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital. Accepted items: pills and liquids for people and pets from households. These items are NOT accepted: Illegal drugs; sharps, needles or syringes; mercury; items from businesses. The medication drop box offers a safe way to get rid of unused medications. Flushing unused medications causes the chemicals from medications to get into our ground water. Simply throwing unused medications in the trash could lead to accidental poisoning because children and/or pets have easy access to them. Throwing them in the trash can also mean that they could be stolen or abused. For more information, please call Oconto Falls Police Department at 920-846-4500 or Oconto County Public Health at 920-834-7000.

Coupons for Military Families
Did you know that the Abrams Unit 523 collects manufacturer coupons for our Military families?
Military families stationed overseas can use manufacturer coupons up to 6 MONTHS after their expiration date. Our members collect and clip the coupons out of the Sunday newspapers. The Abrams Elementary School students can really make a difference by collecting these coupons and bring them to school. In general, our military families can only use regular manufacturer's coupons such as from newspaper inserts, coupon mailings, store displays and coupons you may receive directly from the manufacturer. BOGO coupons are also acceptable. They cannot use "In Store Only" coupons. Note: Food, baby, and pet coupons are the most requested coupons and usually needed more than non-food. (This is likely due to the abundance of non-food coupons available to everyone in general.) There is a drop off box at the Abrams Elementary school office. By collecting these coupons it helps save money for our military families!
For more information feel free to contact Abrams American Legion Auxiliary Unit 523 President Ann Lotter at 920-373-5339. Thanks for helping our Military Families.
