A funfilled November!

November was a fun filled month for the Wonderoom community. Various activities and events were organized for children.

Children's Day Celebrated at Jawahar Bhawan

Story Telling, Drawing Competition, Fun Games, Quiz, Drama, Chocolates made this Childrens day happier for Wonderoom community!

A collective initiative from the Wonderoom and RGF team lead to the decision of celebrating Children’s day on the birth anniversary of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. The venue for observing Children’s Day was Jawahar Bhawan.

An entertainment and inspiration filled day was organized for an audience of more than 300 children including School students, children from neighbourhood slum areas, children from different NGO’s and the regular Wonderoom target group. Activities like storytelling, drawing competition, fun games, display of exhibition, quiz and theatre performances were a part of the event. Our goal was to bring together children to celebrate, inspire and wonder!

A story telling and interactive session was planned for children. Indira Mukherjee, a professional story-teller narrated some fun and inspiring short stories on the life of Jawahar Lal Nehru revoking the values of empathy and compassion.

Hundreds of school children exhibited their creative side through drawings.

Wonderoom team mounted an exhibition of drawings made by children, they were displayed in the pre-function area and few best paintings in different categories were picked up by our judges.

Wonderoom children performed three impactful plays, which portrayed the stories written by Munshi Premchand. Children were level best in displaying their creativity and talent.

Activities and Excursions

We began by conducting a Theatre workshop on ‘expressions’ wherein children portrayed their personalised experiences of Diwali celebrations into acts. On the next day we organized a fun filled Art and Craft Workshop on Diwali decoration. Next day, a Film screening of animated Ramayana movie was arranged and enjoyed by kids. We moved forward with a very interesting and learning ‘Shadow and Puppetry workshop’ which also encouraged the children to look into books. Week came to an end through a culturally rich and vibrant ‘Reading and story-telling session’ on Ramayana and Lok-Kathas.

Excursion visit to Indira Gandhi Museum and Indira Gandhi Trust on the birth anniversary of our former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was taken up on two consecutive days. Children enjoyed cultural performances and witnessed the collection in museum.

Excursion visit to NSD Bal Sangam, a children’s festival was arranged. Children participated in various theatre and craft workshop. Festival offered a mix of folk and cultural performances.

About Wonderoom

Wonderoom is a children's library situated at the heart of capital city New Delhi. It provides free membership to children from all backgrounds to come and access information through thousands of books available in the library and free access of Internet. Its operating hours are 10 am to 8 pm.

In addition to reading books, Wonderoom children are active participants of various workshops like Fun with Science, Art and Craft, Story telling, Drama and Theatre etc. Wonderoom believes in the idea of equal opportunities for all children and promotes creative learning.
