Tractor Training Safety Offered in Gordon
Nebraska Extension Tractor Safety & Hazardous Occupations Course will be offered in Gordon on June 22 at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds. Class begin at 8 am and end times will vary, depending on the number of participants. Contact (308) 327-2312 for more information. First day of the training is offered online.
Teens 14 or 15 years of age who will work on a farm should plan to attend. Federal law prohibits youth under 16 years of age from working on a farm for anyone other than parents or legal guardians. Certification received through this course grants an exemption to the law allowing 14- and 15-year-olds to drive a tractor and to do field work with specific mechanized equipment.
Participants must submit registration forms at least one week before the course. The registration form is available online: kearney.unl.edu. Cost of the course is $60, which includes educational materials, instruction, supplies, and lunches. For more information, contact the Extension Office of the location where student will attend.
Extension is a division of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln cooperating with Counties and the United States Department of Agriculture.

IMPORTANT MEMBER INFORMATION
YQCA Deadline June 1!
Livestock Quality Assurance Certification for 4-H members exhibiting BEEF, DAIRY CATTLE, GOATS, HOGS, POULTRY, RABBITS and SHEEP is due JUNE 1. Those who do not complete this certification will not be allowed to show at the Dawes County Fair.
The new LQA Curriculum called Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) is now active. Anyone who has not registered for the LQA online course for 2017 should now navigate to the NEW online YQCA course at yqca.learngrow.io. You will use your FAMILY 4HOnline login and password information to access the courses for the ACTIVE youth in your family. Only ACTIVE members will show in the drop down menu for access to the course. All registration questions with YQCA should be directed to help@yqca.org. There will not be local support for the YQCA program. All 4-H'ers need to use the 4-H tab and not the FFA tab even if they are members of both organizations. There is a button for families that have forgotten their password, but it doesn't appear to work well. Please change your password in 4HOnline, then go back to YQCA. 4-H'ers that have started their QA training in the LQA site will be able to complete their 3 modules and print off their certificate of completion and take it to their Extension Office.
In YQCA, YOUTH MUST PRINT OFF THEIR CERTIFICATE AND BRING TO THE OFFICE
OR EMAIL THE PDF VERSION TO TLEMMON2@UNL.EDU!

4-H Alumni - Raise Your Hand!
WE NEED YOUR HELP ALUMNI - Nebraska has moved up, but not enough to WIN!
From March 1 – June 30, 2017, 4-H alumni are being asked to Raise Your Hand. It is as simple as 1-2-3!
1. Raise Your Hand – Complete the form at http://4-h.org/raise-your-hand to show your pride as 4‑H alum.
2. Compete for your state – Raising your hand is a vote towards a $20,000, $10,000 or $5,000 award for the states with the most alumni hands raised. If Nebraska 4-H receives an award, they plan to share it with all 93 counties!
3. Pay it Forward – Use social media to Tweet, Post and Share your #4HGrown experience or support and tag fellow alumni asking them to raise their hands for Nebraska.
The “Raise Your Hand” event is not an effort to raise funds, but was developed as an opportunity for 4-H alumni to share their experiences and help bring greater awareness of the benefits of 4-H to light. Take time today to RAISE YOUR HAND in support of 4-H.

Corn Valley 4-H Club
Photos courtesy of Jessica Stec and Tonya Gibbons
Corn Valley 4-H club made 12 planters as a project to beautify the downtown business area of Crawford. A committee designed the planters, and then the club got together to build them.
On the evening of May 25, 2017, 13 club members and some parents gathered in front of Gibbons Honey Store to fill the planters with dirt and flowers. Then they went downtown placing the planters in front of various businesses.
It will be the club’s responsibility to water and care for the plants, and they are hoping to get some signs that say they were made by Corn Valley 4-H Club placed on the front of the them.
Members of the Corn Valley Club include: Alexa and Garrett Tollman, Emma and Dalton Norman, Allison and Hunter Owens, Paden Morava, Tripton Stec, Carson and Trey Gibbons, Roman Luevano, and Miranda and Amelia Betson.

Their financial support is also given for improvements to the Dawes County Fair Grounds allowing members the best opportunity to showcase their wide array of skills. Members or leaders who wish to apply for financial support to attend a 4-H educational program are encouraged to complete a form available online at http://extension.unl.edu/statewide/dawes/4h/ or in the Dawes County Extension Office.
