One irregular position we are looking for is one art-related person to come judge the art competition on the morning of March 30th. This judge cannot be from our campus. If anyone knows an artist who would be willing to stop by Saturday morning, judge student art, and eat a free lunch please send them our way! You can let Cynthia Singelton know at singletonc@ltisdschools.org.
HBMS Community Connections - New Program
Since taking this job as the principal of the best middle school in Texas, I have wanted to find better ways to reach out to the HB community and have meaningful discussions about issues that matter to all of us. I have thousands of discussions with parents each year, and I'm surprised at times with the disconnect between school and home, or just the lack of knowledge some parents have over the ever-changing rapids that is raising a teenager. It is hard to keep up with these students and they are not always that concerned with helping us out! Issues like vaping, drugs, misuse of technology, and eating disorders are just a few of the stockpiled warehouse full of topics that I would love to address with the HB community. HBMS being aligned with our students' families will undoubtedly help us all raise these wonderful students into happy responsible adults. For this reason, I am going to start a program called HBMS Community Connections. This program will take place once a semester and will have myself and a few experts in the field of a specific issue present to, hopefully, a full house of parents in the HBMS cafeteria.
The first session will take place at 6:00 PM on 3/28/19. I have invited Deputy Lisa Lucas of the Travis County Sheriff's Office (SRO at LTHS) and Dr. Brian Temple (award winning pediatrician with Beansprout Pediatrics) to discuss the impact vaping and drugs are having on our kids. Deputy Lucas will teach parents what to look for in their child's room when considering the newest vaping devices or drug paraphernalia. Parents will also learn what can be done from a law enforcement perspective and how that process works. This is the same information Deputy Lucas presented LTISD staff during the professional development conference in February. Dr. Temple will mirror Deputy Lucas' presentation with what he is seeing in his practice and the impact that vaping and drugs are having on students today. It is easy to say "not my kid", but I strongly encourage you to take part in this presentation, as I doubt anyone will leave without learning something that will help the ones you love most.
Congrats to our Yearbook Staff!!!!!
