Update from Mr. Koch

As you know by now, Governor DeWine has mandated that we finish the 2019-2020 school year with remote learning. I know for many of us, this was not a surprise, but it is still disappointing knowing we will not see our students in person again this year. With this announcement, we can start making plans for such things as returning library books and chromebooks, collecting belongings from lockers and locker rooms, etc. Pickerington is working hard to create a plan, and once I have more information and guidance from the district, it will be shared through Infinite Campus messaging, here and on our Social Media sites.

If your student had PE during Trimester 3, please use the following link concerning any belongings that may still be in their PE locker. We are currently working through a plan to return items to families.

Remember, you can view details about how Pickerington Schools is handling this extended closure in a “one-stop” webpage. Click the big blue “Coronavirus Closure” button at the top of the homepage for the latest info, and check our social media channels as well.

From Mrs. Richardson and Mr. Stiel

Hello Ridgeview family,

In last week’s newsletter, Mr. Koch mentioned the upcoming changes in the office. I know we will all miss having him around, but we are excited for his new adventure. With his new adventure comes my own. I am extremely excited to continue at Ridgeview in this new role as principal starting next school year, and I look forward to working with you and your students in this new capacity.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to introduce Mr. Stiel as our Lead Assistant Principal. This will be his third year in the Pickerington Local School District, spending the last two years as the assistant principal of Toll Gate Middle School. He is excited to continue watching the growth of the Toll Gate Middle School students he has worked with for the past two years, as well as meet the rest of the Ridgeview Junior High School students and staff face to face in the fall! He is a proud member of the community, living in Pickerington with his wife Jessica, and his four kids, Cameron (age 6), Connor, Emmy, and Riley (yes, they are triplets turning 2 in June). He is looking forward to helping students transition to Ridgeview when we return to school, and is wishing everyone a safe summer with their families!

Please continue to take care of yourselves and your families, practice social distancing and good handwashing, and reach out to our staff if there are any questions or concerns during this time of distance learning. We miss seeing your students, and look forward to the day when we can come back to our building, staff and students, face to face.

Medication Pickup From Clinic

If your student has any medication in the clinic, it can be picked up:

  • Friday, April 24th @ Ridgeview from 1:00 - 3:00
  • Monday, April 27th @ Ridgeview from 10:00 - 12:00

Any questions or concerns about pick-up, please email Mrs. Stewart, School Nurse marcia_stewart@plsd.us

Mrs. Stewart has also created a website for students and parents with valuable information, resources and videos. It will be updated regularly. Check it out and remember, "We are all in this together... just temporarily apart." Stay safe and healthy!

Artwork from Mrs. Knox

Mrs. Knox challenged her Art students:
  • After viewing artist's temporary sculptures, you are challenged to create your own temporary sculpture that represents an important aspect of your life. What you use for media/materials is totally up to you.

Help Us Rename the Blizzard Bags!

Since we will be distance learning for the rest of the school year, please help us rename our “Blizzard Bags!” We’re looking for a name that better describes PLSD’s home-based learning during emergency closures that are not weather-related. You could earn a
$20 VISA gift card AND PLSD swag if you come up with the winning name!

Some info and tips to help you brainstorm:
• We are seeking a positive name, so we ask that you please don’t include the words “Coronavirus or COVID-19” in your name suggestions.
• Email your name suggestions to: plsd_communications@plsd.us. Our administrative team will select and notify the winner!
• Contest submission deadline is noon on Wednesday, April 29.

Happy brainstorming and good luck!

Today is Last Day! Interested in Being a WEB Leader?

( Please try the updated link from a plsd account.)

  • Are you interested in making a positive difference in your school? WEB stands for Where Everyone Belongs and we are looking for WEB Leaders who like helping others. WEB Leaders help run an assembly, have small groups of incoming 7th graders they get to know and support, meet monthly to learn leadership skills, and do a leadership project designed to have a positive impact on the school. We look for students with all different types of leadership styles. If you're interested, please answer the question below.

Face-to-Face Tech Support Schedule

Pickerington Schools’ technical support hours will now be held on Wednesdays through the month of April. Each Wednesday, you can get help with your student’s device between the hours of 2 PM – 4 PM at the District Office at 90 N. East Street. Please use use this link to register for service. Only devices that are unusable may be brought in during these times (e.g., broken display, won’t power up, dead battery, etc.).

Locked Out of Device

If your student has issues logging into their device, please have them email their teacher, admin, or counselor and they can put in a help desk ticket for a password change. If students do not change their password when prompted to do so by the device, their password will eventually stop working and they will be locked out. Obviously, they will need to use another device to email or have someone email for them.
