Portola News!
Weekly Update: 10/9/2020
Six Weeks!
Hello, my fabulous families!
I hope that your week has been going well. The daylight is decreasing, which brings about the changing of the seasons. This certainly affects people in different ways; I love the fall colors and all things pumpkin! It is also an important reminder to take extra good care of yourself as the change in light can affect your circadian rhythms.
Please continue all of the wonderful support you are providing at home for your children, both academically and emotionally. It is really important to maintain those important routines! Focus on encouraging independent work habits!
We are starting to have conversations with our leader, Superintendent Espinoza, to plan for transitioning back to school. Please mark your calendar for our upcoming visit on his listening tour!
Fondly, Dr. Krotz
Superintendent Espinoza's Listening Tour: October 20th PTA meeting @ 6:30 pm
Please join Superintendent Espinoza as he hosts a listening tour. He will be looking to learn about our school community so feel free to share all the things you love most about our school and maybe one or two things our school or district can improve on.

First Day Packets!! 10% of families still need to turn in their paperwork; remember, these must be completed before a child returns to school. TB tests are MANDATORY for First graders before they are allowed on campus.
First Day Packets: CONGRATULATIONS FOR THE SECOND WEEK to Ms. Beane/Ms. Volkman's class for having 100% of your families turning in their paperwork!! Yay!
First Day Packets can be downloaded here. A VERY limited number of printed packets will be available in the office.
The following is the procedure for returning these forms:
We ask that you scan and email these documents back to the Portola School office.
Student's with last names starting with A-L, email to Lisa Chapman, lchapman@sbpsd.k12.ca.us
Student's with last names starting with M-Z, email to Deni Meyerhoff, dmeyerhoff@sbpsd.k12.ca.us
Please indicate your child's NAME, GRADE, and TEACHER in the email subject line when submitting these forms.

I would like to congratulate ALL parents for making sure that their child is properly immunized before we return to school. Portola is 100% compliant!! Yay!! Well done!

Don’t forget to join PTA!
Congratulations to Torrent Lee, Brooke Griffin, and Kenji Tse who were randomly selected as the winners of the Portola spirit wear because they signed up for a PTA membership by Sep. 30th!
As an added incentive to join the PTA will be rewarding the top 3 classes with the highest membership participation a virtual magic show! Currently, the top 3 classes are:
1. Mrs. Lemons (62%)
2. Ms. Ventura (58%)
3. Ms. Contreras (54%)
The cut off is Oct. 31st, so you still have 3 more weeks to change the standings. If you haven't done so already, please join the PTA to show your support! https://jointotem.com/ca/san-bruno/portola-elementary-school-pta/join/register
Thank you for supporting the PTA and our efforts to build membership this year. Tricky Tim, the virtual magic show, will appear on Wednesday, November 18 from 11 am - 12 pm for the top 3 classes with the most participation.
A message from your Box Tops coordinator, Laurie Sanchez:
The Box Tops for Education (BTFE) program is a great way for families to help earn cash for our school. Simply buy participating products and use the Box Tops mobile app to scan your store receipt within 14 days of purchase. For each label, the app automatically adds 10¢ to our school’s account. Even if you’re shopping online, you can still submit your e-receipts and earn Box Tops.
Lastly, if you have any physical Box Tops labels, please turn them in by October 30th to the box in the school lobby so they can be included in our Fall submission. Alternatively, you may submit them directly to BTFE. Visit BTFE.com/submit for more information.
With everyone’s support, the earnings really add up!
