Hello JMS Families!
It's August already and we are gearing up for the new school year! We have some important information to share regarding schedules and paperwork that needs to be completed before our children attend school (including the transition week for new students). If the required paperwork is not complete, a child may attend transition week with a parent present in the building. While some of our forms were completed on TADs this year, there are still three that we need everyone to complete and hand in. There are links to all forms in this newsletter. Hard copies will be available at JMS.
Check out the August/September calendar of events including the schedule for the transition week for new children (attached below). You will also find a PDF version of our 2018-19 school year calendar at the bottom of each newsletter.
In our next newsletter look for the updated 2018-2019 Parent Handbook and back-to-school supply lists form our Guides.
For All Families:
The first official day of school with before and after care is Tuesday, September 4th. However, all children are invited to attend a half-day 9:00 - 12:30 on Friday, August 31st. Immediately following at 12:30 we will have a Welcome Back Picnic for all families in our backyard. Please bring your own nut-free lunch and blanket or chair to sit on.
- Please print and return completed Immunization Records and Health Care Summary signed by a doctor's office.
- Please print and return completed Emergency and Medical Treatment Release Form signed by a parent.
For New JMS Families:
Please plan to attend our new parent orientation on Thursday August 23rd from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. We will highlight important policies in the parent handbook and spend some time in the Casas with the guides. This is also an opportunity to turn in forms.
For Children Transitioning into Casa:
A sign-up genius will be sent out for you to choose a time for your child's individual meeting with his or her guide.
Our orientation week is August 27-31. This transition week is for children to ease into their new environment. We recommend that you remain close to JMS or in the neighboring area should you be needed. We know you share our goal of a smooth and comfortable transition for the children and we believe this is the best way for that to happen. We appreciate you accommodating the schedule into your busy lives.

Volunteer Opportunities - Updated
Volunteers are always welcome to help at JMS! The school and the guides would love to utilize your talents! Currently, the guides are doing with prep work for the school year and could use your help. We could also use help with building maintenance and care of the grounds. Please connect with your guide or fill out the Google Form below to find an area you would like to help out with now or in the upcoming year.

JMS Courtyard and Gardens
We have a beautiful outdoor space for families, staff and children to enjoy at JMS. In previous years we scheduled a summer clean-up day, but our summer camp staff and students have helped to keep up with weeding and watering around the school. We would love some additional items (mulch and mums especially!) to prepare our courtyard for the beginning of the year. Thank you for your consideration!
- 20 bags of brown mulch (2 cubic feet/bag)
- Flowers to add some color to the courtyard and front gardens as needed -Mums- assorted colors (yellow, orange, purple) (10-15) -Tulip bulbs- planted outside both Casas for a beautiful spring flower garden that the children can use with flower arranging
- Small garden statues (realistic animals such as rabbits, birds, frogs, elephants, turtles) to embellish the courtyard and front garden area
- Garden tool storage/organizer (example below) to organize the children’s garden tools
- Children’s wheelbarrow (example below)
Household Items
Can you help donate an old household item?
