Eastlake Middle School 1.28.19

Dear Parents/Guardians and Community Members:

We are two weeks into the second semester and I have been proud of the effort that the students are putting into their classes. I have visited many classrooms and I am seeing evidence of engagement and strong learning. Keep up the great work parents! Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns and/or comments about the following items:

A. Dangers of Vaping. Unfortunately, several students were caught vaping on our campus and also drinking a concoction called Lean (mixture of cough syrup and flavored drinks). We are going to be discussing the health issues of engaging in this risky behavior, but we ask partners that you also share in this discussion. Below is a link to a video that we will be using to start the conversations.

B. Teacher of the Year. Please help me in recognizing Melinda Degele as our Teacher of the Year. She will be replacing Tara Taylor who represented ELM with great pride.

C. Military Grant. We are starting the process of putting together an amazing program for our military families. If you are interested in more information about the TRIDENT Program, please contact Dr. Cooke or attend a future Coffee with the Principal.

D. Library and Tutoring. We are going to continue keeping our library open Monday through Thursday from 3:20 to 4:20. Tutoring will be provided on Wednesday and Thursday by our ELH tutoring program.

E. Lots Going On! Please see the calendar below for all of the great activities happening at our school site.

F. Recognition. If you have a moment, please recognize our awesome teachers with the link below.

G. Student Concern? If you feel that your student might be a victim of bullying or your student knows of another student being bullied, please use this LINK to report your concerns and we will follow up.

H. Student Recognition. The 7th Grade Academic Awards Ceremony is on Friday, February 1st at 8:30am in the Pavilion. Parent/Guardian invites were mailed out on 01.25.19. Please be on the lookout. 8th Grade Academic Awards will be the following Friday, February 8th.

We are lucky to have amazing parents and guardians at ELM. Keep shining and let us know what we can do to support your student.

Triton Trait of the Month (Curosity)

“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.”

—Albert Einstein

Why does curiosity matter? From Character Lab

When you’re curious about something, you process it deeply, rather than superficially. You also voluntarily spend more time learning about things that spark your curiosity. As a result, you more readily remember what you learn. In general, people who are more curious are happier and better liked.

In the weeks to come, teachers will nominate students for Triton of the Week who exemplify these traits of Curiosity.

Let us know how we can serve you. We are to support your student and family. If you have questions about the school's programs or how to get additional help for your student, please contact us at your convenience.

Please be aware that we will be utilizing an app called P3 so that students may report directly to the police station any concerns about possible violence, bullying or other areas of concern. It's an anonymous program.
