SFA Science Update

We hurdled over the week to a three day weekend!

Whoop! Thank you team for carrying the message and sticking to the plan. Lots and lots of learning going on this past week. This is very evident from our Lab Safety Exam scores. We had 734 students take the test, a passing rate of 99%, and 74% of our students had a perfect score. Now that is something to celebrate! Just a reminder - any student who did not pass the test is afforded the opportunity to retake the test. Any student who has not taken the test needs to do so quickly. Great job team! Hope everyone enjoyed the three day weekend!

District Lesson Plan Review

On Friday, all teams across the district received feedback on lesson plans posted in Eduphoria's Forethought. Be sure to check-out the information in the email you received, and see the comments/questions/suggestions added to your Google Doc plans to help speed up any revisions needed. Final plans need to be posted in your Teacher Folder in Forethought by 8:00AM on Mondays (Tuesday for our day-off on 9/7). Make sure you click on the grey box at the top of your plans to add your TEKS for each day. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Cool Things to Share with Students

Supermoon & Lunar Eclipse - September 27th. The article contains a great explanation and pictures to use to highlight the event.

Into the Future - The Hoverboard - A cool look at the scientific method in action. Contains a 5 minute video to show how trial and error can lead to success.

One Real Fire Tornado (1) & One Created (2). Two video clips of a fire tornado in nature with explanation of how it develops and one video clip of a man made fire tornado. If time permits, the third video has sound of what you would hear during the event - Fiernado (3).

Density Towers & Density Straws. Density fun! Two short clips.

Academy Lessons

This week we will kick-off our academy lessons. Each grade level will use their own lessons and then package the lesson "kit" to pass on to the next grade level. We will throw in the Fact or Fiction Game at the 4th week with the sixth grade team, and keep the progression going. I have created a shared folder for us to keep the lessons in for easy access so we can use the basis of the lessons, with some tweaks, time and time again. Thank you 6th Grade Team for being the first to post your lesson. Link: ACADEMY LESSONS

Have a great week! Let me know how I can support you and your students.
