The students will also learn all about who I am and how a school counselor can help them. Here is a little more about Mrs. Conkel!

Who am I?

My name is Farrah Conkel and I have been a teacher for 16 years. I am excited to be joining the Liberty Elementary family as your school counselor. Although this is my first year as a school counselor, I feel that my varied background in education helps give me the experience needed to be the best school counselor I can be. I have previously taught Special Education, grades K - 4, and have been an RTI Teacher and Reading Coach at the Elementary level. I am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you and meet your needs as well as the needs of our student's here at Liberty.

My personal Mission Statement:

My mission as Liberty Elementary's school counselor is to create a comprehensive program that empowers all students to challenge themselves to meet their fullest potential. I believe a school counseling program should address the academic, social, emotional, and career needs of all students. I am passionate about achieving this goal by involving the parents, families, staff, and community members that are engaged in the learning process. I am committed to upholding the highest ethical and legal standards, as well as participating in professional development to keep up to date with the best practices in school counseling.

My Role at Liberty Elementary

As your school counselor, I am here to help ALL students be successful socially, emotionally, academically, and behaviorally so that they may access their education without obstacles.

Here is what I do at Liberty Elementary:

*Classroom Guidance Lessons - I will visit all grades K - 4 to facilitate social-emotional skills such as feelings, communication, problem-solving, diversity, respect, etc...

Consistency in providing guidance lessons is a priority to me.

*Small Group Counseling - I facilitate small groups for students who need a little extra support in a certain area.

*Individual Counseling - I meet with students short-term to work through problems that affect their academics. Referrals and facilitating relationships with parents are also important aspects of individual counseling.

*Consultations with Staff and Parents - I am available to meet and talk with teachers and parents to help support students and provide resources and education about issues affecting all children at Liberty Elementary. If you need me to be present at a parent-teacher conference, I am happy to help.

Here's what you should know about me:

*I am ONE part of the team that works to help your student succeed.

*I like to get to know ALL students so they may feel connected and safe while they are at Liberty Elementary.

*I respect both the student's and staff's right to confidentiality and it is a priority for me to build a trusting relationship with each and everyone.

*I am passionate about my role as a school counselor and helping students become respectful and responsible children for our schools and communities.

My overall plan is to maintain the processes that Beth has put into place for referrals using google docs. There will be some district-level changes that need to be put into place, but my goal is to remain as consistent as possible in regards to communication and meeting the needs of our kiddos.
